Is Andersen's Fibrex Vinyl? Altitude issues?
Comments (1)desertwest, any updates? I'm not far from you, but at 10k', so similar conditions. What do you have in there now? Although my current all wood windows leak like a seive, they don't leak from water intrusion. I've looked at the Integrity, and they seem really solid. The problem is they only come in a few color choices. I may go back with an all wood window, just to be safe....See MoreAndersen 400 vs Marvin Ultimate clad
Comments (36)No, those are not installed prices. Just delivered to new construction site. The framers are installing them, under my supervision. Yes, the Andersen door we selected is terratone, a darker color than the Marvin color, but it is a door, not a window and the colors actually contrast pleasantly. Others might have a different opinion, but we liked the combination. I'm pretty sure the Andersen warranty is the same as the Marvin, and this door is under a porch that extends out up to 16 feet. It will seldom see any blowing rain or any direct sunlight. As for the showroom doors we looked at, the Andersen to us was just a better looking door. But the fit and finish looked much better to us. The Marvin's weatherstipping while probably effective looked sloppy to me, uneven, sticking out here and there. The door operation was not as smooth as the Andersen. And about $250 more in cost. So we went with the Andersen, even though I REALLY wanted to like the Marvin as it would have been easier to get it from the same dealer as my windows....See MoreEagle vs. Andersen 400 slider
Comments (3)I just replaced 3 patio doors (19 year old Marvin's) last week with Andersen Frenchwood gliders (these are the 400s). They were installed by a licensed contractor. I think they are garbage. They look good but mine are performing poorly. Major cold air infiltration at the top and bottom of the interlocking weatherstrip between the panels. In fact, I have an adjacent 1 inch strip of frost the entire length of the interlocking strip. I have resorted to stuffing t-shirts in where the panels meet to help stop the cold air. I feel air getting in along the bottom of the moving panel and have thick frost on the sill. Also have frost in the sill channel. The sill is just shaped metal with no insulation. I have the auxiliary foot locks and cold air just streams out of the lock holes in the sill. I have had to plug them with a paper towel to stop the air. My old Marvin's were much better. I don't know about Eagle but if I knew what I know now I would have stayed far, far away from the Andersen's....See MoreAny thoughts on Pella vs Andersen for doors & windows?
Comments (21)I just installed 27 Anderson 400 Series, double hung replacement types, in my 95 year old home, and 1 patio door too. Love them. All of the subs working on my job have complimented them. I went with a terra tone finish on the outside, and they have wood on the inside. They glide very nicely, were installed really well (having a good contractor is everything!), got the screens with them too. It came out to about $700 per window plus or minus (I had odd sized windows - being an old home). Love the tilt out function for easy cleaning. The patio door was about $2500, including the cost of the hardware (6' door) and installation. It would have been more but my regular contractor as opposed to my window contractor offered to install it when he heard that it was going to cost nearly $4000 for the window contractor to do it (it would have been a special order door in that instance and I went to Home Depot to get the one I purchased instead). They have been through several heavy rains already and so far, so good....See MoreUser
