The Vintage Difference - Marie Pavie
Comments (14)Pam, sports are really interesting to me, really fascinating. It's especially nice when there are sports of some of my favorite roses such as Marie Pavie/Daly, SdlM/SdSA, Gruss/Pink Gruss. Thanks for sharing Phillip Robinson's thoughts ... food for thought. Krista, the foliage seems the same to me on both "versions" of MP, which is to say both are large-sized leaves for a polyantha. Florence, I liked that third one too, with the bloom hanging below the pot and the old wood bench that my step father made for me. He's a great guy, I also have bird houses in the garden that he made. Hamp, I'll be monitoring the new MP over the summer. My first impressions of it are very, very good, and I'm happy I placed the order from Vintage. A little rose like this with all that fragance being produced deserves to live in my garden. Comments (17)Thank you all very much. Patricia, I'm happy to hear she grows out of it for you. I will do as you say and give her a boost. It's been in the mid to upper 80s here and about 60 or just under at night with NO rain - and none to speak of expected until June. It's reasonable that she's a little weaker after her bloom. She's had plenty of watering. It's interesting how I'm seeing that generally that seems to be the case with the roses I have. They're either getting ready to grow or just bloomed, cycling through. To my mind, BS looked at that way doesn't seem as bad. It's a by-product of growth - at least with the Teas, Chinas & Noisettes and, I guess, some other heat loving roses. Looking at it that way prevents me from panicking and saves the lives of many roses who don't know any better. Thanks again. Sherry...See MoreMarie Pavie Speaks
Comments (33)Michael, what a lovely piece. My MP is such a beautiful bush until late summer. Then she gets BS, drops her leaves, refoliates, and blooms again. This all became apparent when I stopped spraying about 3 years ago. I know I should sp her, but I just cannot. She only looks ugly two to three weeks out of the summer. And her scent is heavenly. I would like to hear what some of your other roses have to say. Barbara...See Moremarie pavie or cecile brunner?
Comments (9)MP in my area is in constant bloom. It is an extremely carefree plant. In fact, I just moved it. I have heavy clay soil here and when I picked up the root ball with the shovel and started to move it, much of the root ball broke off. I knew it would come back eventually, but I was completely unprepared for how quickly and how strong it came back. Upon replanting it had some major wilting of the cane tips, which I cut off. Then it completely defoliated. I figured it would be into fall before I saw any new growth. Within two or three weeks of complete defoliation, it started to show new growth. From the time new growth started to having lots of leaves and blooms was two weeks. I am now enjoying the blooms. Needless to say I am very impressed with this rose. I also really like the growth habit--it is a nicely rounded bush....See MoreBrooks23
