Comments (18)golddust, I've heard of that too, I'm not sure if one can do that with these really old toilets, or if they would still work well with less water. Maybe worthy will weigh in? If there's a way to keep it, I'd love to. It's really neat in the old Cadillac vs. Honda idea that Kasha Kat mentioned earlier. I know the Honda is much more efficient, but those old caddys are just so cool! Fuzzywuzzer (love the name)- I hadn't much thought of painting the floor because we aren't going to be taking the tile off of the walls right away (and maybe never) and I don't like the look of painted floor with tile. Somehow it makes the floor look cheap to me. I know this makes no sense, I love a painted floor everywhere else and in fact plan to paint the floor in our den, but for some unknowable reason, I don't like it in a bath. After we do the kitchen, and get a real look at the floor, we'll see what direction we need to go in. If the floor is in good shape, then I think we'll finish it and make the walls beadboard wainscoting. If it's not, then we'll probably tie it to match the tiled walls. I'm hoping for the Octagon and dot style, but maybe hex with random daisy design. I've been posting our kitchen renovation in this forum, more to push me to save photos of the process, I know I'll forget. I've been keeping "polish" somewhere in the title. It's a great house that just needs a nice polish. Katie,as much as I love the O & D it's not worth a toilet! I'll be adding a coat of white paint to most woodwork in my house because I don't have the time to strip it right now, that's an activity that is definitely back burner when there's so much else to do. I love the purple- I bet your bath is amazing, will you post photos? I put in a reply on your earlier thread asking about color choices, did you make any others? I'm still hemming and hawing over them. I'm going now for just some plain white for the woodwork- Thanks for the input! Comments (6)Lovely! I like the classic white tile and porcelain and how you used furniture pieces in the bathroom. I love that the storage at the end of the tub has pull-outs that can be reached from the toilet. Your custom sink and backsplash and counter are unique and beautiful. Yours may be the first bathroom sink I have seen in which a small or medium dog could be washed! That is a good thing! I showed your pictures to my DH because I am thinking of classic tiled walls with a chair rail for when we redo our bath in a couple of years. He liked it! I was expecting him to say, "too old fashioned." He did not, he said it looked nice. From him, nice is a compliment. He even liked your rows of listello. I was just at the Tile Shop's site the other day looking at the Hampton tiles because someone was selling some on Craigslist. I am hoping to do as you did and get what I can cheaper there, and fill in the rest from the store. I can see that you worked very hard to secure all of your materials - and then cut the floor tiles to size and culled the Hampton tiles, too! You succeeded very well in getting the look you wanted while saving money along the way. Congratulations, and thank you for the pictures and great detail and supply list....See MoreTrying to do a beach/cape codish style for kids bath...need help.
Comments (13)zipdee! Wow! Love the look! Did you just transform a dresser for your sink?? I'm trying to decide on what to do for a vanity and can't find anything that works with this room...thought I'd go look at antique stores for some more ideas...what type of paint did you use to get that blue? Yep, found no more of the tiles!! UGH! So we decided just to do the glass tiles on the main wall of the tub and on the two side walls we are just using the 6 inch white ones in a pattern...I think it'll work...I'm going to have to try and find some cheap bead board! It's just so much cutting and hanging that I hate! :) I wished I'd put a skylight in the bath...but it wasn't at the right roof pitch..love your floors as well..think I'll do that in my son's room....love the ideas!! Comments (24)Thank you everyone for all of your comments and suggestions. Some people commented on the view. The lake view is the central reason we bought the house. The view and the price. We bought it for the potential knowing we would start renovating immediately. We have to be out of the current condo we are renting by the end of this month. So, we need one working bathroom before we move in. I can work on the other projects if we have that one bathroom. Here is the listing for the house. https://bit.ly/SehomeRd If you look at the listing, you can see that neither of the bathrooms (nor the laundry) had ever been updated. Lots of yellow/orange oak and vinyl floorings. The rooms smelled old. In the first week of owning the property I demoed the smaller bathroom and gave away the vanity, and the toilet, tore out the vinyl flooring and removed the particle board subfloor. We have many projects, and we are on a tight schedule. The first project was to have the floors refinished. My tiler has been patiently waiting for the hardwood floors to be done so that he can get started. Refinishing the floors took longer than planned because of the off gassing from the finish used and we are nearly a week off of our original timeline. Yesterday was the first day we could get back in the house when the smell was not overpowering. Now that the hardwood floors are done and the finish has "cured", we can get going. Where we are located in the Pacific Northwest is a "design desert" with very few tile stores. They all offer Emser Tile and Surface Art as their primary tile selection. The light-colored tile from Enser Tile called Uptown Sugar Hill looked great on the sample board I'd gotten from one of the tile stores. I'd chosen Sugar Hill because that color looked the best next to floors before they were refinished. Sugar Hill also has many different size options, and I thought the tile would work well with the floors and the walls. Just to be sure, though, a couple of weeks ago I ordered a box of five 12"x24" tiles through Home Depot and they've been sitting in the garage for the past week. When I laid them yesterday, both the tiler and I said the color doesn't work now that the hardwood is so light. Sugar Hill has too much of a grey undertone. Since the condo where we are staying is literally on the border between US & Canada, today I am going to make a trip to Vancouver, BC. There are many tile stores with lots of options. Wish me luck!...See MoreRelated Professionals
