Comments (1)bumping this down. The Fernbank Science Center sale was great! I went at about 10am and they had already sold out of many things, it was packed. They had mostly native plants. I got a Clethra ruby spice, a rhododendron maximum, and a rhododendron Dexter Scintillation. There will be another sale in fall....See MoreBusy weekend #1--Farm Market (photo intensive)
Comments (2)Gosh Lesa, I should know that.......... LOL! These were just a few to eat fresh. My local place actually had CALIFORNIA tomatoes (I'm in Oregon) for sale. I was NOT happy! I asked about local ones and the owner told me there were just a few from their greenhouse (that's what you see in the photo). they still taste like hothouse toms..... :+( They did provide "color" in my salad. I would think prices are going to vary by area, but I always call ahead and see what quantities they have and the price. If I'm looking for large quantities, I'll have them reserved. Most of the farms are happy to quote a price on the phone! Deanna...See MoreSelling heirloom tomatoes
Comments (5)Or perhaps they are like me. we had an awesome storm that flooded our basement a few inches. I have my light growing system down there =(. The greenhouse sets over the door of my basement so I can walk in and out to the back yard without problems. well just before the storm I moved a large number of my plants from the lights into the greenhouse area. I left town for three days to work. What did hubby do? well hubby being the wonderful guy he is wanted to dry the basement out because of my allergies. sooo.... he put fans in the basement and opened my greenhouse doors to allow for air flow..... alas I lost many of my plants to frost the nights were just to cold. Anyhow I have been hunting greenhouses trying to replace the plants with similar ones. I guarantee if I read in the paper someone was selling heirloom plants I would be calling before the sale! This will be the first year in several that we do not have my favorite yellow and stripey tomatoes =(...See Morechellers
