RU just called, anyone have experience growing New Zealand HT
Comments (7)I happen to be a fan of 'New Zealand' and its white sport, 'Full Sail'. Both produce beautiful, fragrant blooms; very nice foliage, too. However, having grown these roses in 2 gardens, I have to say that both NZ and FS are slow to really establish themselves. Until they do, they are rather lackluster. All of my experiences with these roses has been with grafted plants. Because they are slow to establish, I think I might hesitate to grow them on their own roots. Maybe someone else can weigh in on that matter. I can't address the cold hardiness issue; if that is a concern, you're probably wise to heed henry's advice. NZ is among the very first of my roses to close down in the fall, so I think of it as a warm weather producer....See MoreAny experience with Queen Elizabeth or JFK roses?
Comments (5)I have grown Queen Elizabeth in Atlanta. Beautiful blossoms, bloom all summer. The black spot is the problem that gets them by the end of the summer. I don't use pesticides, so I try to control it by picking up leaves on the ground and occasionally using organic sprays. I have had two gardens and in the first one, it took a few years before the spot started. In my new garden, I have two plants and one just got spot and it is touching another plant, so it must have gotten more moisture. Even when the leaves fall off from the spot, you still have pretty flowers. I always have the climber New Dawn, which has better resistance (in my experience), and is easy. Comments (0)I have been perusing small hostas this evening to fill up 3 vacancies I have in my garden. One is Ivory Queen. One is Coconut Custard. And a third which caught my eye is Mellow Mood. I'd love to hear about anyone's experiences with these guys....See MoreSo, no one has any experience with Coconut Custard or Mellow Mood?
Comments (3)Ooooo, pretty! Thank you soooo much. I see a few hosta vendors selling Ivory Queen, Coconut Custard, but only Jim's Hostas (of the teeny specimens) also has Mellow Mood. And a lot of the hosta sellers don't state that they test for HVX, so I don't want to order from them. Hallsons, Naylor, etc. don't have all the hostas I want. Does Jim's Hostas even test for HVX?...See MoreRelated Professionals
