Do wild alliums grow in northern Long Island NY?

Ari K.

There's a little lake/pond in Setauket NY with a ton of grass growing all around it and I swear I can smell the wild onions every time I pass by, the aroma is really pungent but I'm not sure if they are wild onions or another plant that smells similar to the allium family. My grandma used to grow onions so I know how they smell when they're growing, though hers weren't wild... but it could be the soil itself, no? Nobody else seems to notice the smell. Maybe I'm crazy, maybe they are... :)

I pulled one out (without the root) and it *kind* of looked like the bottom part of a scallion (thin green filmy leaves that peel off) but I'm not sure. (Should've taken a picture but it was rather dark outside) I don't know much about gardening...it's been a cold spring this year but I do hear that alliums like moist soil.
Anyway thank you in advance for any help, I'll try to take a picture next time I'm in the area and it's light outside.
