Gray(ish) paints/open floor plan
Comments (3)Unfortunately, there is no waiting to choose paint; I have one week left. But yes, I definitely plan to add some bright colors. I have an accent wall right now, and I just don't love it as much as I do in magazines. I just remembered today that we got this very cool orange bowl for our wedding that has just been sitting in a closet for years, because it didn't match anything we have. It might be time to dust that thing off! I also love cobalt blue, which I think would look great in the kitchen, but probably not so great in the living room (probably clash with the blue I'm leaning towards--I tried a sample of Meditative today). I guess there are upsides and downsides to trying to do make over a big chunk of the house at one time: stress now, but less hodgepodge whem it's done. Thanks for the ideas so far!...See MoreFinished Kitchen: White-ish, charcoal counters and blue glass bs
Comments (43)Alexx - I really love your kitchen! It came out beautifully!! I have a question about your counters. I am doing a similar look with the white shaker cabs (framed w/full overlay) and quartz (Caesarstone Raven) countertops. I will also be doing a mitered edge with a 1.5" overhang. My question is ... how far do your counters project past your cabinet boxes, as well as past the doors/drawer fronts. There is some dispute between my cabinet maker and the countertop folks. Cabinet maker says I should have a 1" projection past the doors/drawer fronts, while the countertop folks are suggesting a "flush" appearance (not truly flush, but more like a 1/4" projection). Can you tell me what yours are? And if anyone reading this has suggestions or advice, I would appreciate it! Thank you!...See MoreKaren_belle's 'finished' MCM-ish kitchen
Comments (36)GRYANE, my condolences to you! After having spent the last 18 months doing fire restoration/insurance settlement/moving, not to mention parenting and working full time, I know how traumatized you probably are. I hope your new house is just beautiful, and that your contractor provides a good quality product with good service and attention, and that your insurance adjuster(s) are patient and kind. We still have furniture and window treatments to replace. And we're missing a few odd things....like where is my pyrex casserole? And how about the clothes that were hanging in the laundry the day we moved back into the house? It is still taking up a lot of mental space. ((((HUGS)))) And thanks for the compliments on our new kitchen, to you and everyone!...See Moregray kitchen cabinet blues
Comments (9)Hi! Maria Killam is the color expert! She has a system that helps with undertones of neutrals. Also has a blog that is like 10 years old full of helpful stuff. She talks a lot about ben moore as she worked there. The color has an undertone, lighting from inside the home influences (how warm or cold it is), color that reflects from outside into your home also can influence. In my last home I liked a beige during the day but night it went wrong and so I tried more cool lightbulb color which helped. So gray has either blue , purple, or green. I have seen all of them and painted with all at sometime either on a wall or furniture. I had blue gray in a bathroom which I liked. Purple gray feels - odd - to me. And then green gray. It looks more like the one in nature and she considers that the most "neutral" and I agree. It can work well with some beige colors too. Here is a jumping off point if you want to visit her site. https://www.mariakillam.com/what-everyone-should-know-about-gray/ Good luck!...See Moreelpaso1
