Karen, much earlier there, wonder why that is when our climate is more mild. Last year the first egg was laid at Lake Washington on 3-13, I was still watching eaglets (2) practicing flying, branching, in August. And I did notice Phoebe is building a second nest. I've been wondering if food is plentiful enough here that our winter residents (annas) are nesting or beginning to. They are still coming the the feeders several times a day, but this week they don't seem to be guarding, watching, the feeders where I can find them at almost any daylight hour perched someplace in my backyard. More like they are dashing in to eat, then leaving for periods before returning again - going where, I don't know.

I'm in La Verne located about 2 miles from the Pomona NHRA dragstrip where they are racing this weekend. I've been seeing quite a few Allen's lately. I can hear the Allan's coming to the feeder since they have wing noise has a metallic sound element to it compared to the Anna's which have a lower troning sound.

Thanks, Bonnie!, I have an olympus C-770 UltraZoom, I love it. I'll probably have it at the swap so you can play if you like. It's not superduper like the SLRs/professional ones but for my needs, it's great. I took the pic from my swing, about 12? feet away. This the first year we've had feeders, and we're having a great time with them. I'm not reliable about watering container pots and I didn't think I'd be good about refilling the feeders, but now that we have the hummers to watch, I'm sure they'll get filled like the rest of the feeders do.
