Old Irrigation System Not Working

Daniel Wanstrath

I recently bought a home with an older system. It does not appear to have a any time of controller and just a single zone. It looks like you simply open the supply valve which has a fluid pressure switch. This pressure switch then starts the jet pump (1/2 HP). We have city water on this system. The system was not winterized and the back flow preventer has a few cracks. The pump does not start when connecting 110 volts directly to it. The entire lot is 1/2 acre and I am still digging heads out the ground, so I cannot give an exact number. Do you think this type of system is worth repairing or go with something with multiple zones and no pump.
