Need help germinating seeds with reticulatum in them
Comments (13)Hi Nancy, It looks like you've got some great crosses there!! Of course, you have to remember that my very prominent stripes on Santos x Autumn Rose Lady have the reticulatum genes from both parents and even at that there is one vigorous seedling with no stripe! I'm wondering if the light or amount of sun plays a part in the prominence of the stripes. I have to admit that my Santos bulb has spent its whole life (since I've had it) in my sunny bay window (a lot of hot sun) and I must admit that the stripes have become extremely pale, when they were quite prominent when the leaves first emerged! I should think it would just the opposite!! Perhaps they like the light from the shop lights they are growing under?? I recently moved my paler Limona x Autumn Pink Ladies down stairs under the same light as my others, will be interesting to see if in a few weeks the stripes become more apparent. I only have the one striped seedling of Santos x Chico and I will absolutely die if something happens to that one!! I can't wait to get some suitable parterners to bloom so I can try again with what's left of my frozen Santos pollen! I doubt that my Santos will bloom again this season as it put out 3 scapes the first time it bloomed with so many flowers that I'm quite sure it needs a bit of time to recharge! Maybe I'll get lucky. It will be exciting to compare leaves and flowers in the future with these Santos crosses from all of you and thank you for posting your list! Hopefully, when you recharge your battery you can get some shots of your leaves and add it to this thread. Donnaâºâºâº...See MoreParty Pooper and a few friends...
Comments (22)Beatrice, Party Pooper will take on Santos, I got a few seeds last year and did it again this year and the pod is forming nicely. You won't get many seeds though, I am only grow about 8 from last year and only a few are striped but that's better than nothing! Party Pooper also took on Limona and I got quite a few seeds from that cross so PP's pollen is viable if you try the right partner. On my Party Pooper this year I have put Chico, Sulewesi, and on the last flower a combination of papilio, Kahlua (the right one), papilio x aulicum and Santos. (Sorry Kristi, desperation;-))!! All pods are forming somewhat but each year about half way into the process, they abort and I'm expecting the same this year. Past years I have tried papilio many time and it never worked but it only takes once! Good Luck! Just about everything takes on Santos, this year I have Exotica, Chico, Party Pooper, Tango and Sulewesi. The largest pod so far is Exotica followed by Tango, the rest are smaller but firm and should only yield a very small number of seeds but I think the Exotica will yield many. I only got one scape on Santos this year but hopefully there will be another maybe a little later as the bulb is good sized so then I will try a different batch of pollens. I have a Chico about to bloom and I think I will try nelsonii, Party Pooper, Santos, and I'll think of something if I get 4 flowers, I've got lots of great pollen!! Comments (41)Donna, your seedlings look nice and happy! How old are they? Are they from your first Santos crosses in 2014? Do you still have all those seedlings? Then you might have a big Santos & familiy flower party next season... I'm looking forward to see the pictures :-) I just read your old posts about Santos and saw your beautiful and almost mouthwatering pictures. Of course I would love to get some seeds from you with Santos genes in them if you have some to share, because now I'm really in love with Santos :-) And I'm sure you will find nice partners for this beauty! Until now I wasn't a succesful bee this season so I can't offer you anything right now. There's only the White x Papilio seedpod which still may fail. But there are more flowers to come (Emerald, Santiago, Rebecca, Estella and others)... Anja...See MoreH. Santos
Comments (2)Fred, email me if you have my email. I tried to find yours but it's something strange and doesn't begin with Fred so I couldn't find it. I may have a solution for you. I don't want to post it on the forum just in case someone gets to it before you....Donna...See Moredondeldux z6b South Shore Massachusetts
