But over the months of daily use as a dining table bench (by 8 and 4 year old boys) it started getting rickety again. Some, maybe all, of the screws and wing nuts are corroded, so they should probably be replaced. We didn't do much to it because DH hated it and I wasn't sure if we were going to keep it. But it grew on me, even though it couldn't be used as a bench.

Cool coffee table! Just because you're in a small studio apartment doesn't mean you have to decorate like you're in a college dorm. There are other issues I'd deal with ahead of the coffee table. The rolling cart, ladder shelf and the low crate for books and plants need to be replaced by real furniture. Be careful that not everything you furnish the room with is leggy and spindly. A tall, substantial piece of casegoods on the white wall will serve to visually counter balance the brick wall, and provide you with storage. The little primitive ladder with the plant hanging on it would be interesting hung horizontally on the wall above the sofa. You could put industrial style clips on it to hold interesting black and white photos. Shop for a slim long table tall enough to fit over the AC unit and fill that recess. That's where you can arrange your plants and some of your decor.

Center TV on its wall (and mount if you are not in a rental). TV stand below to span most of that wall. Center sofa across from it. Pull loveseat and other seating around it. Is the sliding door/window supposed to have something in front of it (is that dining space)? If not, you could create a reading nook or something like that. Art over sofas (maybe mirror if it reflects nice outdoor view). West Elm makes a overarching lamp that attaches to wall (sconce) that is plug-in. Might work to bring light into muddle if room without corner floor lamp.

Before buying a coffee table, it would be great to provide a picture of the whole space; without seeing a bit more, hard to suggest appropriately, ie: perhaps seating may work better facing each other for flow and that will dictate size/shape. Keeping an L-shape, could you exchange the two if wall is longer where love seat is presently. Pull couches closer if you need to and again that will dictate table size. (It’s nicer to have couches‘ front feet on rug anyway.) What size rug did you purchase, as a small rug with large square coffee table can feel off; a smaller rectangle table may suit better. There’s lot to consider prior to buying, in order to create the best functionality and balance.
