Peace lily leaves are drooping and curling

last modified: 8 years ago

Received this peace lily plant just 3 days ago and it seems to be wilting more and more:

2nd day

3rd day

On the first night, I sprayed the soil with water freely not knowing I could be overwatering it. Upon consulting the previous owner the next morning, I placed it out under direct sunlight for a couple of hours -- something I now know was a mistake.

Some of the leaves are turning yellowish and feeling soft to the touch, so I am suspecting overwatering. But there are no smells to indicate root rot, no excessive water and the soil also feels pretty hard and flaky when I stick my finger down an inch. So I'm very confused now; should I be watering more or less?

Please any suggestions and advice would be helpful. Thank you!
