Need help quick! New sink is too deep for existing vertical drain
Comments (10)Thank you for your reply. I don't have a disposer and hadn't thought about adding one with everything that's going on in the remodeling. There will have to be a spout to attach the dishwasher drain hose, though. The sink will be undermounted and is 9" deep. The cabinet is 30" tall, so I guess that puts the bottom of the drain at about 19-20" above the board that you see. There are about 5 inches below what you see in the picture, under the board that's cut out around the pipes. The board is removable, so maybe the plumber can work with that extra room. Would a disposer fit if there are 5 more inches? The other thing is, I don't really know anything about requirements. Do you see a vent on this? It's in sort of an island and there aren't any other holes or pipes besides what you see in the photo. I saw on other posts that it can be a challenge to vent an island sink, but it's required. Comments (19)The only reason I didn't do pullouts was my sink is 10 inches deep and undermounted. The larger bins I wanted would have been right under the sink if on a pullout platform. I decided to have them freestanding and be able to put something in them without moving them rather than have stuff possibly rub on the bottom of the sink as it got full. There is a disposal, instant hot tank, never MT and large soap bottle, two baskets of cleaning supplies and two DW connections under there as well as trash and recycling. Works for me....See MoreDrawer under sink base
Comments (14)Hi judydel, I don't think your idea is a bad one at all-- several people over at Ikeafans have put a 6" deep (top to bottom) drawer in the bottom of a sink cabinet, and then the plumbing goes in the space between the top of the drawer and the bottom of the sink. It should be especially possible if you don't have a super-deep sink, nor a disposal. I think the only issue might esthetics-- but personally I think it would look fine and would be very functional. At my prep sink, I was able to carefully plan with the GC and plumber to put in a trash pullout and a recycling pullout. In a 30" cabinet I have a 23x16x10 sink, two 8-gallon trash can pullouts, a compact disposal with air switch, and a never MT. Having the pullouts under sink is wonderful-- one of my favorite features in my new kitchen, and such a great use of space. My only word of caution is that if you are trying to plumb in a DW as well that might make the set-up tricky, but you might be able to work it out with the plumber. All this is a lot easier to do if you have frameless cabs, but I think it may be possible with framed cabs. I say go for it! Make that sink base work for you! Comments (22)Ya know, it seems to me that it is a Law of Nature that running water, when it hits an obstacle, will splash. So it would be the angle of encounter that determines where to and how much splashing there is. Southernmum, I have never used your style of pullout, but it looks to me like the rear of it angles back in a way that would direct the water rearward-- and the resulting splash even more so. Do you think that is what is happening?...See More- 8 years ago
