When is it too late to start plants indoors?

I haven't started my seeds indoors yet and was wondering if there is a reason for it now to be too late? The last time for frost in my region is the first week of June.

    Tomatoes need to be started right now. Carrots, lettuce and peas direct-seeded now or very soon but be prepared to cover/protect them from frost once they germinate. All the rest direct seeded after last frost. JMO
