What is the best way?

Maybe this shouldn't be posted here, but since it is regarding my culinary herbs, I thought it would be okay to ask this. I want to keep my herbs growing in containers. Can any of them be planted together, or is that not too smart? Thanks in advance.

I've had a really large container of chives and Italian Flat Leaf Parsley do well for years. The chives keep on keeping on--the parsley needs replanted every other year.

You need to be mindful of several things before potting herbs together....
1. The type of herbs you choose for each container need to have the same amount of sun throughout the day. Some make better companions than others, some need their own pot due to size they get. Mint is invasive, so I plant it alone, but I might put two or three kinds of mint in one container.
2. The herbs you plant together need to have the same amount of moisture.
3. Placement within a round pot (tall things in the middle - or back if there is only one side being seen - and a progression of height to trailing plants on the outside edge. Or use a long narrow container and line them up, but give them lots of room between each plant. Be sure to read the information about how large they get and provide them the space necessary to mature throughout the summer.
4. I design at least one pot for those herbs I plan to bring indoors over the winter.
5. A trip to your local library will have books on herbs and/or container gardens that will give you the information you need on the subject. You may be able to find one container already planted and ready to take home, like an Italian Herb Garden.

What???? You want computer stuff in a space with moisture and who knows what else . You should try to give us some info as to why this combo. Putting in a window is possible but not cheap. Is this in a basement? I for one need a lot more information

What is it you trying to do ? Is it keeping the crap out of the drain? Waht is the hose there for?From what I see I would remove the mulcha dn just have the gravel even if the gravel somehow got shifted it would still allow the water to get through the mulch can plug up the drain easily . Maybe also tell us what the reason for the drain is .

What is the best way to propagate Photinia serratifolia by cuttings?

I see Michael Dirr is promoting a recently discovered cultivar with red new growth but don't know if it is in the trade yet.. The older P. serratifolia I'm going to attempt to clone is not like Green Giant or any other serratifolia cultivar that I've seen. With sun they normally grow into trees and are covered with heavy spring blooms.. This specimen is 50+yrs old and approx. 15-20 ft tall X 15-20 ft wide, has very dark green, drooping, markedly serrated leaves, the leaves are slightly larger than other examples at 4-7inches, flowering is sparse, . The new growth flush is impressive, lighter green leaves emerge with red stems, there is the occasional red leaf. (see picture below) Granted it is growing under mature willow oaks in open light-shade that may reduce flowering but gets more than enough sun to show it's full growth potential. I suspect it may be a new variety, possibly a multi-stem dwarf as it apparently never tried to take on a 'tree form and hasn't exceeded 20 ft in more than 50 years. Also it has proven disease resistance as a short distance away an entire planting of P. fraseri were wiped out by leaf spot. I hope the propagation goes as smoothly as you suggest,

I would use a stripper and strip it all off, and then wipe it down and make sure it is completely clean. Once that is done put on a good coat of top quality sealing bonding type primer. When its completely dry, then put on two coats of good quality paint.

I don't know an herb that doesn't do well in full sun....
I know ther are different moisture requirements but for a summer I have successfully grown in one pot parsley, basil, oregano and rosemary.
all loved as much sun as I had available....and the rosemary and oregano didn't mind the water that the basil wanted.
Don't over think....put them in a pot and stick in the sunniest spot you can find. For one season they will be fine.
And if you want to make a perennial herb pot and an annual one, you could do that....put your basil, dill, cilantro in one pot and the oregano, sage and rosemary in another.

I don't think it's a bad idea @ all, as long as plants w/ similar requirements are used, as stated above. Just make sure they're not overcrowded - check mature size & allow "elbow room" from that....
