Bathroom challenge
Comments (21)Hi JoeyM, you are starting out with much nicer things to work with so I have no doubt that your bath will look incredible when you are done. We had to do a quickie remodel on this bath as the master bath is gutted to the studs. As you can see from the pictures the 2nd full bath was beyond weird. We put the fence up you can see in the background, the neighbors house is right next to that fence. How anyone lived with that original bathroom setup for over thirty years is beyond me. The last owners put in the brown cabinet with black granite top, I painted the cabinet navy but it looks lighter in the pictures. For a budget remodel it came out cute, it doubles as a cabana bath to pool/guest bath and doggie door to outside (to make my life better). While I like the lighter floor in this room I do not like this particular tile so down the road that will be changed. I really love your tile! I live in Florida and decided to do a borderline tropical but you have a lot more options. If you decide to re-glaze your tub you might want to spend a lot of extra time checking references and such. Years ago I had a bad experience with a so called glazed tub that looked very nasty after a year and a half or so. BEFORE AFTER Love my deeper tub! I had to get creative in changing out the tub as it required several rows of tile and drywall removal to make it fit. I used pool tile and salvaged tile from removal. Comments (6)Lovely! I like the classic white tile and porcelain and how you used furniture pieces in the bathroom. I love that the storage at the end of the tub has pull-outs that can be reached from the toilet. Your custom sink and backsplash and counter are unique and beautiful. Yours may be the first bathroom sink I have seen in which a small or medium dog could be washed! That is a good thing! I showed your pictures to my DH because I am thinking of classic tiled walls with a chair rail for when we redo our bath in a couple of years. He liked it! I was expecting him to say, "too old fashioned." He did not, he said it looked nice. From him, nice is a compliment. He even liked your rows of listello. I was just at the Tile Shop's site the other day looking at the Hampton tiles because someone was selling some on Craigslist. I am hoping to do as you did and get what I can cheaper there, and fill in the rest from the store. I can see that you worked very hard to secure all of your materials - and then cut the floor tiles to size and culled the Hampton tiles, too! You succeeded very well in getting the look you wanted while saving money along the way. Congratulations, and thank you for the pictures and great detail and supply list....See MoreBathroom layout HELP: shower + laundry challenges!
Comments (3)The door can be moved. The window is very low to the ground, only about 24" from the floor. Its a huge Victorian window....See MoreNeed help with overwhelming bathroom challenge!
Comments (18)If you have to live with the tile, I'd change out what is easily changed until you are ready for the larger renovation. That toilet is massive (and kinda ugly) and it is going to use a LOT of water on every flush. Newer toilets use very little - some use less than 4 litres per flush and you can get dual flush as well. I'd make that change quickly and it is easily installed. A new white pedestal or small vanity with an undermount sink would be nice. Replace the mirror and the light fixture and take everything off the walls. Big box stores and even Ikea have very reasonable prices on vanities and mirrors and you'll be able to find a light fixture for less than $100 without too much effort. Get rid of the shower doors and replace with a shower curtain on a bar. Paint colour, I think I'd lean into the colour of the current fixtures a bit. A light taupe colour leaning toward white. Maybe something like BM 1499 - White River, or BM 2112-70 - American White. Some nice fluffy new towels and it should make the room bearable until you can tear it all apart....See Moretorreykm
