Ugh! I hate it! Creative solution, anyone?
Comments (23)Wow, it never occurred to me that someone would pour chemicals down the drain like that!! *** Well, it's not just chemicals POURED down drains. It's things that WASH into drains, and eventually flow to streams and lakes (and, out here, the sea). We live in an agricultural area very near the ocean. Our local farmers are using fewer sprayed chemicals. Even so, things sprayed, misted, or otherwise applied to plants wash into our creeks and flow to the sea. Lawn fertilizers, with, or without pesticides, create HUGE damage to fish and other aquatic life. Frogs with both male and female sexual organs and extra legs or heads. Areas of the ocean where there's no available oxygen to support marine life. Stuff like that. Very ugly. Jeri...See MoreCreative heating solutions/installation ideas wanted (long)
Comments (7)I have not seen those. Thanks for the suggestion. I am looking to hide or decrease the foot print of the heaters elements, not change them out. For example, using slant fin, lay them around the room perimeter. Where they hit a stud, cut the fins with tin snips so the center pipe lays flush with the studs. Then back each bay with a metal reflector. Use plastic pipe hangers (called mickeys?) to suspend the heaters. Then I could build wood boxes with a gap along the floor and a gap along the wall so the heat can move through them. I also thought about using a radiator panel. Again, thinking of something creative. However, if I go through this much effort, maybe installing radiant in floor may be worth the effort......See MoreCreative shower lighting solution
Comments (5)We are in the middle of a master bath remodel, and I have concerns about lighting in my shower as well. My plans call for one 4" recessed fixture, centered in the 42 x 66 space. Having a large rainhead and an exhaust fan makes it difficult to find space for a second light in the shower, so I have been thinking about a light above my niche. My niche extends up to about 12" below the ceiling. There are 2" recessed lights available and that is an option I am considering. It might work for you as well. Comments (13)Thanks for the feedback everyone! For the most part, i'm ok with the style of the cover and don't necessarily want to spend money on swapping out when I don't have to, i just want to make them look nicer. So far, I've only opened and vacuumed the insides, and even though they're a bit rusty, they *are* functional, so it's just a cosmetic problem for me. However, I've never actually seen any of these covers that have never been painted over, so I'm not exactly sure what "look" I'm trying to accomplish with them. Sounds like sandblasting is not as expensive as I was thinking, so maybe doing that and starting with a fresh palatte will help. I'll see if I can find a place to do the sandblasting in the tri-state area. Also, thanks so much Stephanie for explaining the design. I've seen similar radiator covers in pre-war buildings in NYC and was aware the design had something to do with directing the airflow, but your explanation clarifies it much more. The ones in my apt are all under windows and the inside radiator is exactly how you describe. Only difference is that the top vents are not adjustable, they only face upwards....See Moregoldendoodle56
