getting rid of pests that overwinter
Comments (5)then move on toward a more aggressive pest remover ... neem is an oil.. and very lightwieight when it comes to impact ... and as far as i know it must come in contact with the pest to suffocate it ...which doesnt do any preventing [i wouldnt be surprised if that was completely wrong.. lol ... where is gal? .. ] if and when a problem arises .... that is not being properly handled by the lightweight stuff ... then move toward something a little more powerful ... if you truly want to remain holistic in your approach.. then the answer is even more simple... get used to them ... pests ebb and flow over the years.. i am a bit surprised you had the same problem 2 years in a row .... i am usually loathe to recommend preventive chemical [organic or not] use.... as a prevention .... but for the REALLY BAD STUFF .... but that isnt your topic i do not feel able to properly address what the next step is as far as something stronger .... but whatever you choose... use it according to directs what info you really need.. is how this particular bug overwinters.. so you can attack it at that stage ... see link good luck ken Here is a link that might be useful: link...See MoreTalking about mice...is a cat the only way to get rid of them?
Comments (27)I'm petrified of dead mice and living ones out here in the New Mexico can carry Bubonic Plague or Hantavirus. So, we use a combination of mousetraps (that DH has to empty for me), steel wool into every possible opening they can get into and pure peppermint oil. Our pest control people told me that mice (and packrats, another huge problem out here) have highly sensitive noses and for some reason hate the smell of peppermint. It must be the pure oil, though, and not the peppermint extract sold for cooking. I stuff plastic webbed tubing with cotton balls, tie off both ends with rubberbands or plastic coated wire ties and then put several drops of peppermint oil on them. I put them in corners and along the walls where I know the mice travel, as mice follow the urine scents they leave as they walk and tend to use the same routes over and over. I buy the peppermint oil at my local Ace Hardware store. You may be able to get the tubing there, too. I'm still using the bunch my pest control people gave me, so I haven't had to buy any as yet. Re-moisten the cottonballs every month. I've been using mine for a couple of years now, so they do last. Here's the oil I use: And here's what I use to make them with: I've also used one of those high frequency emitters outside in our seating area on the front portal. It needs to be plugged into an outlet and seems to have worked fairly well. I need to remember to buy a new one as mine broke a while back. Comments (10)S...I am not positive about this...but it may not be anything at all. It is possible that that simply is a result of your avo getting torched from the sun. If you look closely at your healthy trees...you will notice a "flecking" on the exterior skin of branches. Some varieties (like Fuerte) can be more "flecked" than others. Perhaps, this just a physical reaction to heat/drying out....See MoreIdentifying Pests and How to Get Rid of Them
