Please help: Chandelier over a dining room table
Comments (2)Hi Jillsp- I think you should be fine. Yes, the common rule of thumb is to determine the diameter or width of the table top and select a lighting piece that is half of that measurement (the diameter of the table top). Your fixture size should not be determined by the size of the room at all, but the size of the table it is over. If your chandelier is not too heavy, my advice is to have someone hold the light over the table while you take a step back and simply use your own judgment and decide if you like the way it looks. There are two schools of thought here because in general, design is about personal taste and opinion....See MoreWhat do you have hanging on your wall over your sofa??
Comments (18)I know how hard can be to choose something to have there. From what you describe, an abstract painting would go nice there, but here is another idea. Over my living room sofa, I have a big gold mirror (35x42) with two other small sunburst mirrors (12x12, and 9x9) it looks great, but I just had a custom made mirror-window, in wood and black ( 32x42) for my dining room, and I like it so much that I am thinking about switching it with the big mirror over my living room sofa. I think the mirror-window would look great in your space. I had seen it in stores, but not exactly as I wanted it, but you can find it online. I would also suggest if you are not really sure, get any type of mirror. canôt go wrong with a mirror!! Let me know what you think. Good luck!!...See MoreDo you have island/peninsula pendants and table chandelier?
Comments (9)As with GrannaBelle, our DR chandelier and pendant lights (2 over peninsula & 2 over sink) are from Murray Feiss. They are part of the "Morningside" collection. Our peninsula pendants & DR chandelier are approx the same distance apart as yours. My feeling is that when they are so close together they should compliment each other. IMO, they should not be starkly different or clash. Here are pics of ours: If you check the link below, you will see they have several different styles, all complimentary, that can be chosen from. As you can see, they do not have to match exactly. (They have some new ones for 2008!) Here is a link that might be useful: Murray Feiss' Morningside Collection...See MoreHow much wattage do you have over your island?
Comments (5)We have 400 watts over a 6 1/2' island. I have to say these are up pretty high- I have been thinking about lowering them when the permanent island is in. Distance also means a great deal in how they illuminate the surface. I also have 100 Watts over the sink and about 360 in the chandelier over the eat-in table (seats 6). We have a historic home so we didn't do pot lights and don't have upper cabinets ( no under cabinet lighting) we do plan on doing led tape to illuminate the turret ceiling. Hope this helps!...See Moremrspete
