Name That Plant!

Mystery Plants in My Garden

I've had several seedling sprout in my garden since the weather got nice. I don't want to pull any up if they are going to produce food, but I think some of them might be weeds. Can you help?

I'm thinking this one is probably a weed and needs pulled.

Califlower? Broccoli? Cabbage? Something like that? Someone I talked to thought it might be ground ivy but it's definitely not that. The leaves aren't right and neither is the growth pattern.

Some type of squash? I have eggplant growing and these leaves are different.

I have several of these in the garden and no idea what they are. I'm starting to think they might be tree seedlings and I need to pull them up.

I think this might be more eggplant. Most of the ones I have growing are much bigger than this so I'm not certain.

First is Erechtites hieracifolia, aka pilewort or burnweed. A weed.

Second looks like a Lamium weed.

Last is a maple seedling.

1. Erechtites I'd say. too.

2. is certainly Lamiaceae but I'd say catmint rather than weed.

3. tomatoes

4. Prunus (tree) seedling

5. Yes, Maple

For future reference, it is really important to know your location so we don't suggest impossible ids and it helps to have something for scale in the picture.

Yes, a classic "ag weed". They are quite tasty in the early going. And yes also, while they grow in abundance and are hence quite bothersome, they are annuals and can easily be pulled out of the ground. The first couple thousand are kind of fun! +oM

first one is nightshade... poisonous.. especially to children.. all parts i believe .... of which one version is the potato ... i think ... aka bella donna.. which has its own unique uses in your love life i suppose .... if you dont mind the risk second.. just kill it.. billions of seeds if you let the tiny daisy-like flowers go to seed... ken
