When should I give up on my broccoli??
Comments (8)Hmm I didn't know that about snow. Low is 30 on Saturday so it will be cold but not THAT cold. I was at walmart last night and checked out their plants. Broc and Cauli plants are only 1.69 each so that will be my back up. I guess I will give my own plants a week or so more. My cauli and broc are just so little still and aren't growing much. I guess I could always try again for fall with seeds. My tomatoes are starting to look great. Thicker stems, lots of leaves. They should be good to transplant by first weekend in May or last weekend in April. So that makes me happy. :)...See MorePoppies Direct Sown in Zone 5...when should I give up?
Comments (7)I direct sowed mine about 4 weeks ago in an area where I had spread some top soil over an existing bed. The temp was unusually high for March. They germinated in two weeks. Please don't give up. I used to direct sow them and had no germination because the soil was not raked clean. Now I have no problem at all as long as the soil is freshly raked. I don't want to WS them since I have a abundant collection of seeds and my garden is too stuffed to fit in small seedlings one spot at a time. I simply direct sow them so they'll grow at will. Good luck....See MoreWhen should I give up on my corn seeds?
Comments (4)Did you dig down and see if the corn is still there. Seven weeks is way too long. Danger of frost is just one thing to watch for when planting warm weather vegetables. You have to take into consideration the temperature of the soil. If the soil is too cold the seed will just sit there. Get too much rain and it will rot. You can't sow corn too shallowly or the roots won't be deep enough to support the plant. They should be planted 1 1/2 inches deep. The mulch has nothing to do with it. I think you should replant. Look for a variety that is early to mature. Different varieties of corn will mature at different times anywhere from 67 days to 80 days...See MoreWhen to give up?
Comments (3)my hibiscus seeds germinated very easily, no nicking required, just scattered over some cheap potting mix, covered lightly, in late spring. If I can't get seeds to germinate it usually means seed is old and not viable (- not been stored properly) or the mice get the seeds before they have a chance! But if i really want them to germinate, then i try putting them in doors on my make do heat bed (electric blanket set on 1) - i have had very good results on that....See Morelindavarga20
