Bosch Integra Dual Fuel Range and Microwave/Convection Microhood
Comments (6)Hungry, Duel fuel units are becoming more and more popular. Many home chefs love to cook on gas, but like the control of an electric oven. With that being said, all professional chefs want to use gas ovens. Typically they are better for baking in that a by product of combustion is moisture and that helps to keep your cookies, breads, etc coming out great every time. Antss is correct in that micro hoods do not vent as well on gas because they don't remove the heat from the room and only filter out some of the odors (if you are recirculating the air instead of venting outside). But in a lot of cases, recirculation is the only option to the homeowner. I LOVE LOVE LOVE that you're leaning towards a convection and microwave combo. That really gives you tons of flexibility in your kitchen. If you're only cooking for two one night, there's no reason to fire up the big oven when you can bake chicken breasts in the microwave with the convection setting. They're also great when using them as a "warming drawer". Good luck with your purchases! Here is a link that might be useful: Want to laugh and learn about appliances? Comments (15)We have an oven/microwave combo (KitchenAid). If I could redo my kitchen I might do that part differently. I did not know when I designed my kitchen last year that microwave drawers were a thing. If I had known I might have chosen that with a built in oven instead. I do not dislike our oven/microwave however I do have concerns about the microwave breaking. The fan was actually broken when we installed it, and we had to get it repaired. So if something happens to it, I know we will have to pull the entire unit out to get it fixed which is more of a pain than just fixing a microwave. The other issue I have with it is that microwave is a little higher than I would like. We installed the unit 1.5" higher than they recommend (so I could have a 15" drawer below) and since I'm only 5'3" the microwave is a little bit high for me. Even installing it at suggested height would still leave it higher than the ideal. A drawer would be a nicer height most likely. I definitely like having a separate gas rangetop and built in oven. There are many reasons I want them separate, so a range was never an option for me. But I probably won't combine the oven and microwave again if I did another kitchen....See MoreKitchen Conundrum: Dual-fuel range vs. Cooktop + wall oven/microwave
Comments (6)I know several appliance store owners & service reps I do business with. They told me it is true that microwaves have a shorter life span than ovens in general. So, I always suggest to my clients who want a mw/oven combo to get the appliances separated & stack them in an oven cabinet. As technology changes, if the microwave goes & you want a different appliance with same width, then it's usually easier to replace & more cost effective. I suggest keeping to standard appliance widths & cabinets with openings standard widths (30"wide opening will give you more choices now & future.) I also prefer slide in stoves, because they are easier to replace vs cooktops that the counter is cut around for. Ideally I like a slide in with an extra oven in a taller cabinet. I personally do not use microwaves anymore. When buying appliances, I highly suggest buying locally with an appliance store that services their products. Their knowledge & support is valuable when installing & if you ever need future help they can service it. Wishing you success with your future kitchen:)...See MoreDouble wall oven or separate microwave+single wall oven
Comments (13)If you're redoing the cabinets etc, you might as well get the layout working better. Below is a layout that would get the cooktop off the peninsula. Realize that when we cook, we spend about 70% of our time prepping and only about 10-20% of our time actually standing over the cooktop cooking. We spend the remainder of the time at the sink cleaning up. So with those statistics where would your window work best? Where you prep. When we cook, we ideally take food out of the fridge and/or pantry, bring it to the sink to rinse and then prep between sink and cooktop. This layout below allows for that. Plus it gives you wider drawers on the lower cabinets which allows for more storage. The left corner is a drawer that opens into the other room and the right corner is a dead corner to allow for wider drawers versus a lazy susan cabinet. I would do a separate oven and a drawer microwave if that's possible....See MoreRelated Professionals
