Music site question

Wasn't sure where to post this question.

I'm looking for a website that I can pick and choose genre's of music for an elder birthday party coming up. Downloading 3+ hours worth of songs will take too much time. I don't want an annual subscription, just music for a party with oldies, country, etc., that I know this person enjoys listening to.

I was on Pandora and they have commercials/ads with their free signup and that won't cut it for a party. If I was to upgrade to their paid service, it's $5/month so I could sign up for a month, then cancel after that as I won't need the service after the party. They current give you a 1 week free trial on the upgrade so I could try it to see if it works like I expect it to. Though their upgrade says no ads, I've read otherwise from people reviewing the site. Are there any issues with Pandora that I may not be aware of? Is it easy to cancel when I want since they will have my credit card? If I could sign up for just one month, that would work for me so I don't have to worry about being charged after that.

Is there a better music site that works where I can make my own music/station list and just let the shuffled music play without me having to attend to the music throughout the party? I'm not knowledgeable with any of these music sites. Thanks.

I'm not an expert, but I've done what you want to do on Google Music. It's a subscription that gives you access to the entire catalog of music. You can make multiple stations. If you have a smartphone you Bluetooth the audio to an external speaker system. On a pc I think you can access it if you have Bluestacks installed to emulate Android.

Anyone who listens to over the air radio is accustomed to (and not bothered by) periodic commercials. Oldsters at a party aren't going to be paying that close attention to the music.

Pandora seems to have fewer commercial breaks with their free service than a radio station would play (which of course is an alternative). There's also Spotify and Slacker, both similar. Why not try them and see?

well you can actually buy a cd in a music store and then make copies of it and that would be yours, or you can buy the music at online music stores like amazon, google music or play store now, or sites like Rhapsody. Amazon MP3 Rhapsody

Thanks. I think I started using Mixpod when it was called something else, forget what. Used it to post the little flash music players as comments in an old MySpace game. Game doesn't exist now. If you do a free Mixpod membership you can search for and create a playlist more to your taste. I actually hosted those songs on a freebie Fileden account, only because I needed wanted 320KB/s. The URL posted above is modified to play in a full browser window but the format of the URL is easy to change to play your own playlist... player color etc. I don't really download anymore either, mostly content to listen to what I already have, and rarely at that. If I'm driving, I've gotta have music, around the house, no, I'm too... distracted... or whatever. :)

Is this party in your home? If yes, maybe your TV provider has music channels available. The last time I looked, our Time Warner cable had 40 or 50 such channels in all different styles. We often have the "Easy Listening" music playing when friends come to visit.

Could also go to youtube and search 60 rock and roll playlist ... so what if has video.

This party is not at a residence. There will be younger people (family) aside from the non-family "oldsters". I prefer non-interrupted music. Thanks. I'll look into the others mentioned, otherwise, I'll just pay for $5 for one month then cancel.

Spotify offers a 30 day trial (ad free) and thereafter it's $9.99 month. You can cancel at any time.
