The distance behind the stools and to the couch is about 4 feet, same on the other side that backs up to the door path. I am new to the program and haven't figured out how to make a bar overhang so had to just make a big tall table and can't show the stools tucked up under the counter. I have a 16" overhand and will be doing backless stools so they will be out of the way most of the time. Seriously, this cabin is really remote and it won't be like people are coming and going, especially during meal times. If someone were to show up when we are sitting there eating with the stools pulled out I'd be really surprised. On the occasions when we will be entertaining the island will be a buffet for hor d'oeuvres or for setting out food and we would eat on the screened porch or out in the big grill kitchen which looks like it could host 12+ easily. This is really just a 2 person house almost all the time. I am going from a 5000sf house on 12 acres to a 1350sf house on 10 acres. The hint to our kids being to come for very short visits, or camp out LOL.

Yep, these kind of properties beg for dogs, especially large dogs who love the outdoors, humans and especially kids. And it's worth pointing out that properties with ponds and water often have frogs, turtles (large snappers sometimes!) and even fish! Having lived with a near-by pond and stream I can vouch for the wonderful appeal of watching the frogs and turtles sun themselves during the day, and sitting out back in the early evening listening to the sound of the young "peepers" in the Spring, and later in the year the baritone serenades of the mature frogs! Positively wonderful. Hint: a nice glass of wine and a good companion are also great additions on such evenings. Architectural suggestion: Design your house so that the water is a positive integral element in the design and living experience ('cause as Anglophilia points out above, it's gonna be an element in your daily life whether or not you want it to be!).

I can see you joining some of your beds and digging out more grass to make it easier to mow around ( and then add more hosta ) Very beautiful yard . Love seeing other's picture for great ideas of what i have done wrong in mine. Thanks for posting

We have a similar exposure. We angled the house about 30 degrees from a true north/south east/west orientation. That way, the 'north' side of the house gets a little sun to brighten it up and prevent mold and algae. Here in steamy SC, we put the garage on the west side to block the afternoon sun, although we have so many trees, it's not that bad. With so much land, give careful consideration to siting and orientation. We had the luxury of observing our property over the course of a year to see how the exposure changes, what it looks like when the leaves are off the trees, and seeing if heavy rains create water problems. I wouldn't like having to walk through the master bath to get to the closet, especially with no enclosure around the toilet, but that's just me (we like our privacy, even from each other). The 'walk-in' closets in the other bedrooms will be of very little use- they're too small, so you waste a lot of space where you walk in. A shallow reach-in of the same square footage would yield a lot more storage. They're also on an outside wall, where you should have windows for light and ventilation. I'm not good at floorplans, so my only other advice is to have lots of windows to take advantage of your private, woodsy views and for good natural light.
