I'm not sure how much this will help as we are in vastly different zones, but having grown Rocdors and Blue Lake 274, the following is what I have observed in my zone 3 Alaska garden. Rocdors seem to be much more tolerant of cool, wet temps. I soak these for a day and plant them when the soil is between 50-60F, and while getting a slow start I do get an okay harvest. When I do the same procedure with Blue Lake, germination success is 1 plant per 10 seeds, with maybe 10 pods from that plant. If planted straight in the ground after a warm spell (75F), none of the Blue Lake deign to make an appearance. The best luck I have had is starting Blue Lake is inside, in flats on a heating mat a week or two before I would plant out the Rocdors. I also have to heat the soil with plastic & cover with fleece for a few weeks to get a decent harvest. Is the weather in your area colder or wetter than last year when you had success? You may want to try some of the techniques I mentioned, plus adding some innoculot. However, you will most likely want to remove the fleece sooner as your temps are probably more salubrious in your clime. As a final hail Mary, I water the transplanted Blue Lakes with warm water mixed with SuperThrive. Best of luck and hope some of this helps! I'm in central Indiana. I had a similar problem when we had exceptionally high temps all summer. But this summer has been okay. The vines are up over the tall trellis.......but no blossoms yet. I know it's a later-producing bean, but it's getting a bit late, right? My Kentucky Blue pole beans are almost done producing. Any ideas?
