Radish plants still small after a month

It's been a weird spring (alternating snow then warm temps), are they just taking longer to grow than usual? These are Easter Egg variety grown in Mel's Mix. They seem to be doing well aside from the small size, but it's my first time growing radishes.

I've noticed that everything I grow from seed takes much longer to mature than what the packaging says...especially if it's a cold season crop or if it was sowed outdoors.

I've never grown radishes before until this season. Mine look much smaller than yours and are only about a week younger.

They should be ready for harvest in about two months with optimal temps. But if temps are low, it will slow things down. They like 60sF temps best. They'll also appreciate plenty of sun. Your picture suggests that they are still dominated by their cotyledon leaves a month after sowing. Yes, that's kinda slow.

This cutting back to the node advice is given to people buying their first Phalaenopsis and I have given that advice in the past at orchid shows. But really your objective should be to make it re-bloom as per its potential and not fiddle about getting another bloom stem from a node which might give you three flowers when the original stem had say seven blooms. To answer your question. If there is a healthy node on a green stem it has the potential to make a keiki or a make a bloom stem. All you can do is wait and see what happens. this plant is a trip... he was only 12" tall when i got him... I cropped him once (as you can prob see) and he grew alot in 2 months - but only 8 or 10 lil flowers are starting to bud.. The only issue I have had with these plants is a damn lil pepper weevil, he killed a few peppers off my black dragon.. but a spider has now made a web in the plant.. and he is getting fat, so i let him be.. i really check his web out every couple days and a....he is a..doing his job! in the past I killed spiders, but now I think they work in our garden and do a great job at that!

Is the soil pure sand? This might account for your shrub wilting like this...and then again, it is highly possible it's wilting because of TOO MUCH water. A newly planted shrub needs a hole that is at least twice the diameter of its root ball (3 times that is better) that has been amended with several inches of good organic material (composted manure, peat moss, compost, etc.). This means the material should have been mixed thoroughly into the soil that was in the hole. The plant needs to be placed in the hole with the soil level of the root ball even with or slightly above the soil level of the surrounding ground. (If it's planted too deeply the feeder roots could be smothering, which will cause the plant to wilt and slowly die.) It should be firmed in, mulched (no mulch means the plant is drying out too quickly), and watered well (once a week is PLENTY, and rain counts). If you did not do this procedure at the time of planting, I would definitely advise you to lift the plant and start over. If you did do this at the time of planting, your plant is likely either suffering from over-watering or some sort of disease.

Might as well try eating the seed pods if you can, see what they are like. The common small radishes need to be picked quickly after a month, they don't get better with age. The big long radishes are grown longer. Makes a difference if 9a is a mild summer climate or a hot summer climate.

If it's the weather, I can try to be patient. Just curious if there were any other possible reasons (like something I'm doing wrong). The reputation on radishes is that they grow fast, so that's why I was wondering why these don't seem mature yet.

Radishes do sprout and grow fast with optimum soil temps, but in early spring they often don't get the temps they like best. I planted some in a raised bed on 2/28 with mid 40s soil and they were not ready to be picked until 4/13 or so (about 45 days). I also planted some on 3/5 with a little warmer soil and started picking them on 4/16. I sowed my last radishes on 4/9 and expect them to be done sometime during the first week of May.

Last year I planted fall radishes the first week of September and they were ready to harvest in 3 weeks.

Yes, I'd say your were about ready to RUN...and grow...temps are warming.
