Follow-up questions and comments for cpartist and meyerk9: Master Hallway: cp - It's only 4' wide (48"). The floorplan is showing 5' 5" because it's including the depth of the niche. Water Closet: cp - It's showing 7' 5" deep, but that includes the space occupied by the 18" deep floor-to-ceiling cabinet opposite the toilet. So it's effectively just a 6' water closet (a little less actually). Toilet location: cp - I agree that my preference would be to put the toilet along the other wall, but I've put it there for purely aesthetic reasons. The large 60" window looks terrible from the outside if it's positioned close to the next bedroom window. Plus, the current location gives me the room for the laundry-cabinet-niche which I maintain is so important to me! :) Master Bedroom Size: cp - Agree that it is not huge. Unwilling to spay for more square footage in a room that I'm primarily asleep in. The chair and ottoman as shown is wishful thinking on my part and I will remove them (or at least the ottoman) from the next iteration. His and Hers Walk-In Closets: meyerk9 - great feedback, keep it coming! I've already elimanted the idea of a bidet long ago. But I don't understand why you don't think I'll be able to have AC in the closets. Why can't I have both a window and an AC-supply in the same small area? FYI - windows will be impact-resistant low-e glass with window treatments chosen for light-diffusion and light-blocking as needed. I'm not comprehending what you're warning me about here. Thanks!

It sounds like you don't really need it right now so I'd put a door on it until its need really presents itself. In the meantime, you could consider adding the door and baseboard trim inside the closet. Also, is it HVAC in the ceiling? If yes, you may want to address/mask it so it's not something you see when you use the closet. Unless......... What's on the opposite side of the wall? Could you use the closet or floor space there?

While you could enlarge the opening, I can't imagine wanting to live in a closet without doors. I am finishing up a gut remodel which included doing custom interiors of the closet. Since almost everything is still packed up except for those articles of clothing which I wear, much of my closet space is still open. I can't imagine wanting to look at the interior of my closet even with a minimal amount of stuff in it and I see what it is like when the doors are open versus when they are shut. I also have a closet in the master bedroom which has some bit of storage running behind a wall and I don't find it to be an issue. I've always used it to store items that I don't need to access frequently - i.e. winter coats or evening gowns :-). In other words, it doesn't detract from my functionality. Perhaps you would be better off with sliding doors rather than bifold doors. The doors in my master bedroom are sliding doors and give me better access than bifold doors I have on other closets. I replaced the original sliding doors with new mirrored doors that have invisible tracks and I really appreciate having full length mirrors as well as the visual spaciousness which mirrors provide.

These are the things I would change: 1. Consider leaving the bed where it is and getting a different headboard and/or comforter. I love opening a door to the bedroom and immediately seeing a bed facing me. Makes it more inviting and cozy--check out any movie or show with a bedroom and you'll notice most of them do the same thing. You don't want to be blocked by a bed as soon as you walk in the room either, so keeping it on the far wall allows more accessibility. 2. Anyone who knows me knows I hate, hate HATE tall dressers. Consider getting a lower and wider one that has a mirror on top to double as a vanity. mirror makes the room look bigger and its a nice work surface at a nice height for make up or hair or just decorating in general. I notice you get more space out of these dressers too, which means you may be able to move your socks and undies into that instead of having a random set of drawers hanging out. 3. get rid of the shelves on top of the desk. If you must have shelves, add floating shelves or something that's more 'open'. I like the desk and the dresser where they are, but those two can easily be switched and still work nicely with what I've recommended. 4. get rid of any extra chairs or seating.. just leaves places for you to pile crap onto, like clothes or shopping bags. I think the main thing here is your room is a bit bright and clean right now, which doesn't seem to be to your taste. put some color in it and if you do ANYTHING get rid of the tall dresser. They are room killers. lol. m
