In a couple hours since I've posted, both of the smaller plants are back to normal. Like nothing happened. %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Very interesting. This outright rules out any root problem. IMO any root problem is no/cannot be reversible. Wilting like what I see in the picture, can be due to TWO things: ___ extreme thirst' ___ extreme heat/sun In both above cases, plant will perk up after watering and after the source of heat/sun has gone. You say you water them every other day. But is it possible that you forgot watering for much longer than that ? OR maybe it is not just enough. It happens to me all the time. Just a week ago some of my tomato seedlings were wilting to the point of dying: THE CAUSE: thirst. After watering, they perked up but the lower leaves did not recover. Sure, soil less medium is better but I have grown all kinds of things in pots filled with garden soil. The problem with compaction and root bounding is that the pot cannot hold enough moisture for a long time (maybe not for one day), in the dog days of summer. Probably you have summer like weather in Florida right now ? THE BOTTOM LINE SOLUTION (imo) re pot them with soil less potting mix into a bigger pot. Hope all this is worth couple of pennies. But I am not asking for anything. hehe

Not quite sure what you mean by bulbs. Bearded irises have a rhizome at the base of the plant. from this rhizome, new ones grow, which will produce new leaf fans, and eventually new flower stalks. These can be divided and planted as seperate plants when the clum is big enough. Dutch iris grow from a bulb which is smaller than a daffodil bulb, fairly rounded and has a brown papery outer coat. Sometimes bearded irises produce a seedpod at the top of the bloom stalk. This is green, oval in shape and can vary in size from tiny, up to as big as 3" long. This may be empty or contain seeds. If you get one of these, and you haven't deliberately hand pollenated your flowers, then you have what is commonly called a bee pod, because, presumable the bees did the work of pollenating the flower. This will contain seeds from an unknown cross. These can be planted and grown to produce new plants, all of which will be genetically different from each other and both the parent plants. I would agree with "let them get red" as a rule. They might top out at bright orange, yellow, pale green or purple, but odds are red is your target. If you had said, "I bought the seeds off the interwebs and two of them look like jalapenos and these two don't" i'd say whoever sold them to you got theyselves a little bit of a hybridization problem. Seeing as how you bought them from a nursery, it depends on if they grew them on site from seeds or bought them as seedlings. If they planted seeds and sold the seedlings, hybridization is still a possibility. If they bought them as seedlings for resale, i'd wager on mislabeling (if someone is selling wholesale peppers, i'd assume they're going to either make damn sure they're selling purebreds or go out of business). Either whichever... enjoy them. Life is an adventure. :)

this is really upsetting. i KNOW i planted pepper plants, but unfortunately they got knocked over in my little greenhouse and was happy to see what i thought was pepper plants survived. i do have "poke plants" in my yard already which i hate and have been trying to get rid of.. i just dont understand how since i started everything from seed and planted them in my garden they arent what i thought they were :( thanks everyone for your help.. i guess im going to dig up these plants and hope next year i actually get pepper plants :/ Nicole.
