Comments (5)So, would you feed again with plant tone, or foliar feed with fish emulsion? If those were my only 2 choices I'd use the Plant Tone. I don't recall the ratings on it but at least it is well-balanced unlike the fish emulsion. Then again dry organic fertilizers only work when there is sufficient soil bacteria to convert them to usable nutrients. So they are slow-acting. Your best bet if you want only organics is one of the many well-balanced liquid organic fertilizers that also include micro-nutrients. Comments (26)So far (cause I'm not finished yet) I really love my tapmasters! Within two days it was like I'd always had them. They turn on water with verylittle pressure. The constant on feature was a little stiff at first, but I just sat on the floor turning it on and off for a little while and now that feature works easily. I alsolove my Karbon laminar flow faucets-so much quieter! I used to have to turn up the TV to hear it when washing dishes, I dont have to anymore! It is really strange how much I love not having to turn on and off a faucet. I feel like I've gained an extra hand in the kitchen! While I love the look of my new marbleish countertops, I have only ever had laminate, so these are very cold, and hard, and louder. I'm sure I'll get used to it, but I am afraid I'm going to break every dish I set on it right now. I also like having my pullout trash in my prep area, (not undersink near DW). I can scrape scraps into a compost bowl I set on top of trash during prep time, and can sweep crumbs straight into trash whenever. I also like having trash away from DW and sink, avoids the bottleneck at the DW after meals. Kids can be at trash scrapingplates then go to DW to load. (I suppose if I did it all, same spot would work, but my kids didnt get that lucky, they have to pitch in) I don't get wanting trashcan at main sink, to me it just adds another task in an already busy area....See MoreShare your 'living through kitchen reno' tips
Comments (15)First, keep your eye on the prize. A wonderful new kitchen. Forget about today's food. Knee deep into week 3. Painters tomorrow on Mon and Tues, cabinets come on Wed, appliances arrive Thurs. I am guessing it will be a week from Friday til it is 85% done. Havent picked out countertop yet. Have the sink, faucet and soap dispenser, but keeping my options open re the sink. I thought about this today. Have a lot of plastic grocery bags and rolls of paper towels. Food is not a big deal for us and we have had pizza once and gyros twice. I Cook very little, but we are empty nesters and dh only eats a sandwich for dinner. So I buy deli tuna salad and reheatable double cheeseburgers, toss the buns, low carb, big lettuce containers, deli cheese, almonds, grapes, bananas. It's relatively short term anyway. Rotisserie chicken. Unprocessed stuff. Deli stuff. Cabbage and chicken salad. Lean cuisines. Nuke eggs or beaters in sprayed mugs. Have microwave and fridge. I precooked a bunch of chicken breasts, plain, which are still untouched in the freezer. We don't, nor do we care to, have wonderful dinners every night. Dh goes out to a nice lunch a few times a week. If I still had starving teens, I'd have milk and cereal, "the great (thursday nite) cereal buffet and get sushi for dd. raw veggies and spinach dip. Simple and plain. Home brewed and store bought Starbucks. wine. it is ok. So happy about the kitchen our food is minor. The kitchen is a little miracle. Again, plastic bags(save 'em beforehand), paper towels, cooking spray, paper plates, and whatever are your own personal necessities and convenience items....See MoreRental house kitchen -- please share your advice!
Comments (34)Just a minor comment here... While a tenant would certainly appreciate getting a larger window, it would mean a great intrusion into their lives (likelihood of interrupted sleep for a med student/resident), and a risk to their possessions. Two musician friends of mine, still college students, had a landlord who decided to refurbish their kitchen. Good -- except that while they were gone during the day, leaving their extremely expensive instruments home, he left the house wide open with no windows. He thought they were "just students" with nothing of value. Little did he realize that he was exposing them to the possible loss of instruments worth more than the house. Since it sounds like you can't do the work now, I would discuss with any potential tenants how you would handle security and what hours workers would be there. It may be only a rental, but during their tenancy it is their home....See Moresjhockeyfan325
