Will I regret white grout on marble backsplash?
Comments (1)Honestly you're going to have enough trouble keeping the marble white much less the grout - seal it all!! THREE TIMES! lol Seriously though I've heard horror stories about smoke and wine stains in the kitchen. Sealer every year is about the only way to avoid stains. I've been lusting after the white marble backsplashes myself but after spending half an hour scrubbing the white grout on the marble in my shower yesterday, NO MORE! I went with whisper grey on the floors in the shower and bathroom and they show dirt far less. If I had to do it all over again I'd have gone grey all the way. Good luck!...See MoreAnyone regret getting a mostly white laminate countertop?
Comments (12)My laminate counters were put in when I re-did the kitchen in 1991. They aren't white, but they look just as good as the day they were installed. Back then, what you see under the quartzite sample in the photo below was a perfect match to Deer Isle granite. I wanted to do a face-lift for the kitchen now and wanted to get the Formica fx180 laminate in 'Calacatta Marble' as it's SO realistic looking. So, I had a large sample of that, which is mostly white, see link below, and I went at that with a big sharp knife. I am amazed that I could see a few tiny scratches for a while, and they 'healed up' overnight. I looked at it again the next morning, and they couldn't be seen or felt. I DID elect to go with Fantasy Brown quartzite, because that Formica with the ogee edge I wanted cost as much as some granites, etc. I bet that the quartzite won't be as worry-free as that laminate has been for 24 years. Here is a link that might be useful: Formica 180fx calacatta marble...See MoreOrdered cabinets and now I am regretting pull out spice base cabinet
Comments (28)Not a solution for the OP-this is how I usually do them. Pictured is a 15" frameless. I aim for 15-18", 21 max.I rarely allow a 9" cabinet into a design but have done these at 12" For semi custom brands ordering is a hack, talk with your KD and get detailed drawing and order info. Should be something like- door shipped loose (or deleted and separate door ordered) one standard RO, one tall RO or drawer box (8" high). Method for field install of door depends on door style-options include : 6" tall narrow angle brackets on sides, "L" bracket on top of bottom box, ply attached to door, sometimes can just attach the door to the bottom box-depends. From mid range and up can just be ordered. I disable the soft close on the bottom RO often to cut down on stress when opening and no the bottles don't fall over. We used to do this a little differently so I don't have current photo just rendering but the cut away side helps clarify (have a few installing currently and will get pix once they are loaded)....See MoreAnyone regret white oak in kitchen?
Comments (21)badgergal I have a place in my heart for ash - the house my parents built and I grew up in had ash window/door trim, baseboards and interior doors, all natural. Your floor is beautiful and I like the mix with cherry - they complement each other well. ILR here's the scoop - I wanted 5", DH wanted max of 3" and we settled on 4" but he warned me they would show some cupping especially at certain times of the year and they do. I really hate it when he's right and that's why he wanted narrower boards. I've made peace with it. We've been in the house since March, one story over full unfinished but conditioned basement. We're in western NC so we've had heating days, AC days and nothing days - haven't seen a significant difference in the floor, perhaps this winter when we have a longer stretch needing heat. Our dog is a 22lb *youngin* who gets antsy when she can't be outside and loves to place chase from one end of the house to the other, scrabbling on the floors the whole way. Ok. So I'm the one who likes to play chase ;-) Trust me. she can be a nut job, don't let this fool you....See Moresjhockeyfan325
