Meyer lemon help please

I apolagize for the long post. I have alot of info, and im not sure what is and isnt useful.

I bought a beautiful fruitful Meyer lemon tree about 3 weeks ago from a nursery. It have removed 2/3 of the fruit, and it is doen to about 6 lemons now. Unfortunately it has gone pretty far downhill already. I'm not sure 100% what the issue is at this point, and I'm looking for a way to save it.

I started out with a heavy watering and then a small one every day. Seems like I was way over watering it. I've been letting it dry out about a week now and the leaves are still yellowing at the veins then spreading to the whole leaf ( the leaves that are yellow are very soft/flexible ). At the same time I stoped watering it I mixed my rabbit poop into the soil down an inch and on top. As well as some rabbit food pellets, hoping the two would give some added nutrients.

When planting it in my yard I fluffed the roots when pulling the tree from the pot, dug about a 2' deep hole, and mixed in the " 100% organic potting soil " and Sandy soil from the yard under and around the tree.

Yesterday I dug small 3 inch deep holes hoping it'd help release moisture.

At this point the soils still damp 6" down, the tree gets 65% of the days sunlight, temps are currently high 60's at night and low 80' during the day.

Any help would be appreciated.

1 other issue that I don't think is as big, a few small red spots have appeared over the past few days. Any idea.?

When planting a citrus tree in the ground dig a hole only big enough for the tree's root ball to fit into. Back fill the hole using ONLY the dirt generated from the digging. Never add any amendments such as potting soil. By doing so you are actually making a lake that the tree's root system sets in at each watering. Citrus trees are heavy feeders, and require 6 feeding during their first year, equally spread out over the growing season. The normal fertilizer used on young one year old trees is either 6-6-6 or 8-8-8 (conventional fertilizer). The purpose of the feeding regimen of young citrus trees is to develop strong foundation branches. Looking at the picture of your tree, it is very low on nutrients especially nitrogen. It is your tree to grow as you deem, but my advice would be to forget rabbit poop. - Silica

It was only used as a quick on-hand fertilizer. Now i have information to make the right purchase. I am in no way a green thumb. I just recently purchased my first house and am begining to learn about plants. Thank you so much for your help

I am not an expert on Meyer Lemons, but have one in the back that I have had for years. It is the easiest to take care of. Why not put it in the ground. Everything does better in the ground. I prune mine or cut the long branches sometimes during the year, but will give it a good chop once all are picked. It never gets too big. I would guess my lemons are about double the size of most peoples Meyer Lemons because the ground is covered in about 5 to 6 inches of leaf mulch all year. The mulch decomposes and feeds. I would say water before it gets too dry. It is acclimating to your yard. When bought at the nursery it is in the shade - when it is immediately put in the sun there will be leaf drop which begins with yellowing. Carol Don't worry, I don't think you can kill a Meyer Lemon. If you do decide to put it in the ground, you would need to let it settle and acclimate before planting.

Wet the root ball thoroughly...Ensure that it is soaked well and then keep monitoring the moisture of the root ball with a wooden dowel or some kind of stick with a sharp point pushed deeply into the root ball, and keep monitoring it until that root ball starts growing into the surrounding mix.. May I ask? Did you just slip the tree right onto w new mix and filled around it? Did you loosen the roots ensuring the new mix gets into the root ball? If you didn't, the soil mix will rot withing the root ball while the surrounding mix stays pretty much in tack..I would re do the re pot and keep that tree shaded for a few days...Looks like you re potted it and just stuck it right back into the hot sun..Too, you should always hold back on any fertilizer that could burn the roots until they start working again and utilize what you have applied properly...

Christina, those other leaves look mighty fine and dark green. You must of been doing something right all year. Many times citrus will drop leaves, turn color or even get attacked by pests this time of the year. The cold comes into play. A lot less direct over head sunlight like summer and watering has to be pulled back dependent on the temps.. That leaf looks like it just naturally fell off.....Mike When you sprayed with Neem, did you spray under the leaves too? Looks like you did the tops but not the bottom..

Update. A few days after the post I fertilized with 8-8-8 and a day later no more yellowing leaves, and the tree just in general started to look better. This was a day after fertilizer and a little over a week after rabbit poop.I additionally drilled the house out to 1 1/2' deep.

The massive rain we just had filled all the holes again, and no damage to the tree from excessive rain and standing water. Guess over watering was never an issue.? O.o

Last concern. The leaves on the upper portion of the tree are still curled upward but feel very healthy. Potential issue.?
