More frozen White flower Farm bulbs
Comments (12)I've never liked using UPS or Fed-Ex... I rely on the USPS, mostly Priority Mail or Next Day Air, and I'm never disappointed. We print our labels right online, so all we have to do is run the box to the Post Office. I take special precautions with everything I ship, even smaller envelopes. I know that even the USPS uses automated machinery to sort, so I never put seeds in regular envelopes. Those go through rollers that crush them flat when being sorted. I usually use padded envelopes or small boxes for seeds. One would think that after sending bulbs twice and having them arrive frozen, the company would look for an alternative method of shipping... My method of receiving items is to know exactly when they shipped, so I can keep watching my mailbox for the packages. If a company can't give me a date of shipment, they're not getting my order. It's not impossible to send and receive tender items during cold weather... and I don't understand how some companies just can't get it together!...See MoreLupines from White Flower Farm
Comments (17)For those of you who think you can't grow lupines, I grow them here in Florida. You have to pick a variety that blooms the first year, and start them as soon as you can in the fall for winter and spring bloom. Having said that, I planted Tutti Frutti lupines this year, got a wonderful sprout rate, and the plants were large and healthy. But this year, as last year, we went straight from freezing temps to high eighties, and I don't think they are going to bloom. I have been very successful with them in the past, though....See MoreJust got hellebores in the mail from White Flower Farm
Comments (1)WFF is also in Conn so you may be safe in assuming these have been exposed to your approximately similar weather conditions already, will not be going through an abrupt transition. If your ground is workable and not overly saturated (as mine is) you could plant them now....See MoreDoes White Flower Farm do big sales?
Comments (21)My late beloved mother in law always used to get me WFF gift certificates. So I'd get plants from them, but the quality was really poor for the price. I don't understand how they get away with it. They do have one hydrangea that I'm tempted by, Blue Billow, but I plan to resist the temptation - don't want to spend my $ there. The only thing I got from them that really did well was "The Works" daffodils. I have to say, they are utterly stunning and have thrived. But everything else was a real disappointment. I hope your hydrangea is ok - my advice would be maybe pot it up and grow it on for a while til it puts on some size (its likely to be very small). Good luck!...See MoreJasminerose, California, USDA 9b/Sunset 18
