Kohler farmhouse vs. Shaw farmhouse sink
Comments (5)I’ve had a 30” Shaw at a second home for 10 years and still love it but decided on the 33” Kohler Whitehaven for our new kitchen reno at home - it was such a price difference and looked so similar. I actually like it better! I especially like the slight slant of the bottom to the offset drain. Much easier to rinse scraps into the disposal. It’s still new but it does seems like the Kohler finish is easier to keep clean. We removed the Kohler logo (which was crooked anyway) so it’s just all white and looks great!...See MoreHow is Your Farmhouse or Shaw Sink Supported?
Comments (12)We are thinking about how to build reinforcement for our Shaws farmhouse sink. The 3/4 inch rails on 3 sides worries us. The contractor says he doesn't think any additional support is needed, but I really feel that the 3/4 inch shims on three sides is inadequate for a 39 inch wide farmhouse sink, especially in earthquake country. We had a Wood-Mode kitchen before. The sink cabinet was the first cabinet to fail in our old kitchen. The floor of the cabinet gave out when the kitchen was about 15 years old - - we only kept a few cleaning supplies in it, so it wasn't an overloading problem, and we never had any major water leaks. We were able to fix that old framed box with a new thick maple floor and that lasted us perfectly well until demo day. So, I am concerned about trusting the cabinet as installed with this much heavier sink. If anyone has any other pictures of Shaws sink installations, especially shots from the underside of the sink that shows how the sink is supported, that would really be great!...See MoreDoes anyone regret their Shaw's/farmhouse sink?
Comments (98)I too am very disappointed, having the same issues with my Shaw; chips, hairline type cracks under(crazing) and doesnt drain properly. One section of the sink creates a little pool that keeps the water from draining, although the sink is level. We have a metal grid, but chips were developing even with that. I rarely use it now because it is too difficult to get the water and debris from under it. Bar keepers Friend is helpful. I occasionally make a little paste and let it sit a few minutes before wiping-I find the powder and liquid to be great. Also Mr. Clean Magic eraser is very helpful especially on the grey surface cracks and around drain. Love the look, but this has been frustrating. I've had it since around 2009 I got no help from the manufacturer....See MoreShaws Farmhouse sink owners: Tell me about your faucet, pls.
Comments (4)I'm using the Moen Level faucet. It is nstalled at the center of my sink and reaches the offset drain just fine. I realize this faucet is totally different from your desired faucet but I just posted to show you that a faucet with a different shape can reach the drain just fine.
