I recommend Chief Architect's Home Designer products. I've used Home Designer Architectural. You might be able to use Home Designer Suite, which is half the price. You have to be willing to invest some time to learn the programs, but for me it was fun to learn. They have a great library of information, video tutorials, etc. They also have a good forum if you're stuck on something. For remodeling and decorating, you can create objects of the exact dimension you're interested in, import pictures, and visualize your space very effectively. You can download a trial version of any of their programs to see what might meet your needs.

I've seen a lot of positive reviews of SketchUp which may be free, but I haven't used it myself.

If you're into learning yourself, then I would recommend Sketchup. However you might think twice when expecting "free" software to help you decorate. Most modeling programs, if they come with furniture objects, come with chairs that are really expensive. (One terrible example, but should get the point across)

I learned AutoCAD classic in 2008. I lost that version when we upgraded our computer. I downloaded a new version of AutoCAD for students and could not really get back to the old classic AutoCAD. I think it has been left in the dust. Do you have any recommendations for 2D drafting programs that aren't too difficult to learn and very cheap! I am renovating my bathroom so I need the software must be accurate to the inch. Thanks!

I've used Chief Architect's Better Homes & Gardens Home Designer software. It was a bit of a spend but worth it in my opinion. I was able to layout and visualize different options for a kitchen redesign, new garage, and other home improvements. The 3-D walkthrough feature really helped me get a feel for what the final space would feel like.
