What's wrong with my Basil?

Hello everyone,

I got a small sweet Basil plant a few months ago which I then transferred into a new pot. After about a month, the base of the main stem started to turn brown (not woody), then the leaves started to shrivel and die off. I have never failed to raise a plant to full maturity so I refused to give up.

I took a small cutting with the healthiest leaves I could find and began to propagate. The new roots seemed to be at a proper length so I went ahead and transferred the cutting to a new pot with good drainage. Everything seemed fine after that until about a couple of weeks ago when the stem turned brown and the leaves started to shrivel again. I doubt the cause is over watering because I only water when the soil is dry. We did however recently receive a couple days of non stop rain. Can anyone please help me out?

Here are two pictures of my plant.

As you can see, a second growth has already started so I know the propagation was of moderate success. Is there any way I can save my plant?

Thank you all so much for your time.
