Double Oven vs. Oven/Microwave combo
Comments (5)My sink is a Bates & Bates. The grids came from the same company. They were expensive but we did our kitchen in 2003/2004 and I can't remember what I paid exactly. I think you will love this combination together. We still like it and it's 5 years old. We did light granite when *everyone* was doing dark, it seemed. We retrofitted new appliances and countertops in our existing 70s cabinets. LOL! They are well made custom jobs and we've never been sorry. It gave us a real updated look and allowed us to build in our refrigerator. At the time, we had only Viking and Sub Zero to choose from. Now others are making cabinet depth refrigerators. Still, we're glad we did what we did. Our entire 'update' cost around $14,000. We feel like we got a lot of punch for our DIY dollars. It's much better than the hideous floral wallpaper and harvest gold formica, sinks and appliances. (The kitchen was seriously harvest gold everything!) Comments (15)We have an oven/microwave combo (KitchenAid). If I could redo my kitchen I might do that part differently. I did not know when I designed my kitchen last year that microwave drawers were a thing. If I had known I might have chosen that with a built in oven instead. I do not dislike our oven/microwave however I do have concerns about the microwave breaking. The fan was actually broken when we installed it, and we had to get it repaired. So if something happens to it, I know we will have to pull the entire unit out to get it fixed which is more of a pain than just fixing a microwave. The other issue I have with it is that microwave is a little higher than I would like. We installed the unit 1.5" higher than they recommend (so I could have a 15" drawer below) and since I'm only 5'3" the microwave is a little bit high for me. Even installing it at suggested height would still leave it higher than the ideal. A drawer would be a nicer height most likely. I definitely like having a separate gas rangetop and built in oven. There are many reasons I want them separate, so a range was never an option for me. But I probably won't combine the oven and microwave again if I did another kitchen....See MoreFitting Microwave/Oven Combo into Double Ovens Space
Comments (15)"Tried to reach the appliances manufacturers but could not reach a live person and the manuals did not detail this information." Appliances manufacturers aren't going to tell you how to build a shelf any more than an automobile manufacturer is going to tell you how to build a garage. The manual does tell you the size of the appliance; where the oven can be located; and the electrical and ventilation requirements. It's up to you to take this data and design the shelf. For example, the product overview of the LG LMC2075ST provides the oven's dimensions, and states that the oven must be on its own 15 or 20 amp circuit and that there must be 4" of open space on all sides for ventilation....See MoreGourmet Kitchen Double Oven on wall or Single oven w/ microwave
Comments (15)We did option 1 and I don't regret it at all. We have a small countertop microwave that is in a regular upper cabinet with a smaller door - picture below which is much easier than explaining! (Just avert your eyes from any unfinished trim bits you see!) This is the first time I've ever had double ovens and I am still surprised at how often I use them - it's so much easier to plan meals that have two different oven temp needs. It feels positively luxurious to be able to have several different things going in the oven at once! Also--before we renovated, our kitchen had a fancy Kitchenaid combination convection microwave/oven like in your option 4. We had so much trouble out of that thing. The microwave had to be repaired a couple times, and the oven electrics would freak out and stop working every single holiday we hosted! We kept them both limping along, but since they were attached, we would have had to replace both appliances if one of them totally broke....See MoreRelated Professionals
