labor costs for custom curtains or drapes
Comments (50)I'm about to make 117" interlined double pleat drapes with a finish Width of 56" and Length of 108". These will be hand sewn with the exception of the pleat sides. I don't want to overcharge, but I also don't want to undercharge for detailed custom work that will take a long time. There will be 2 separate panels...See MoreLabor cost for tile backsplash?
Comments (32)rowen_realtor-- shoot me an email, and I'll give you Rob's contact info. He's as good as they get. :-) yandj-- That job was one of a kind. At the time, I was working on payroll for one of the biggest showrooms in the area, doing most of their custom and high end work. This gentleman was shown some of the previous projects I'd completed for them, and wanted me to design some things for him, all with a native american "flavor". The showroom sent me up to this guy's house with about 3 times the tile I needed in several different colors, and basically gave me free reign. Told me to talk it over with the homeowner and put together some nice design work. That eagle, you'd think would be in the front entry. no no no no no! That was at the foot of his bed: His kitchen floor is also the very first quilt design I did: This mat was also OOAK, and has a very definite NA feel: As well as this transition from one tile to another: This house was alot of fun to do. It basically gave me a chance to play with a theme and see what happened. Not everything I wanted to do came out. In the middle of that mat, I wanted to do a wolf's head silhouette, but just couldn't make one that didn't look like a cross between Lassie and Gentle Ben! Comments (11)I will jump in, as one who "bandied". First, yes, absolutely, no question, if you can DIY, especially if you can really DIY everything, it's a whole different ballgame! Forget the rest of us suckers. I have seen attempts to estimate return on DIY, too, but obviously they would be entirely different. Regardless, I too wonder about any of the methodology on any of this, DIY or no. It seems like a lot of false precision to me! I do not believe that anyone has a reliable, repeatable, scientific way to estimate this stuff. Like, for example, HomeGain, which claims that spending $75 for "staging" will garner me $3,999 more in selling price! If you can prove that, I will easily raise $10 million capital for you to go out and do it, right now. I will front you the $75, and you can keep $1000, the homeowner can keep $2000, and I will take $999, ok? Let's go! Hire an army of stagers. I will do that trade, with an ROI of what was it, like 4,597%, all day long! Move over, Warren Buffet! Frankly, it's virtually impossible to ascribe value to some of these things and to prove what each element contributed to selling price, because you have no "control home". About the closest you get is two identical apartments where one has granite and one doesn't. But did they sell on the same day with the same terms? Did one have fresh flowers and music playing (that was part of the "staging" that HomeGain assigns as much as $3,999 to!). Did one have a cuter agent? And most of the time you don't have houses that are that similar. I dredged up what sorry "statistics" there are just to try to show that, even the industry itself does not purport to say that you will get back what you put in when you renovate. That, I think is hard to refute. If you DIY, then you very well may be able to. If you hire a GC, odds are not. That is my only point....See MoreWhat creative things have you done to increase storage space?
Comments (24)Hi Colleen! I would love to see pictures as you go through your master bath remodel! I'll eventually be remodeling my main bathroom and the 1/2 bath in the master. In the main bath I'm taking out the tub/shower surround and replacing with a "petite" claw foot tub, no shower. New toilet, new vanity/sink, and a small baker's rack for extra storage. Putting in a medicine cabinet/mirror, frosting the window so I don't need a window treatment, and a new towel rack. Also new flooring, paint, fan, light. I'm not sure what I'm doing in the 1/2 bath, except I know I'm stealing a little room from the bedroom to put in a walk-in shower. SO...I'd love to see your progress and hear about the whole experience! Do you have colors and flooring, etc. picked out yet? Haha! Cathy--so true about the garden tub. :-)...See More
