Stained door with painted frame & transom
Comments (9)suzy - I'm not sure if this will help you visualize or not, since this isn't our front entry and it's a window above instead of a transom. Anyway, the doors throughout our home are stained mahogany with white trim and I love how the doors seem to "pop" surrounded with the white. If you would like to see any additional pics or have questions, please ask away :-) Family room doors:...See MoreMixing stained and painted interior doors?
Comments (11)Terri23...here's what we have so far: trim is painted throughout the house, downstairs all doors are Douglas fir to match the windows, upstairs all doors are painted same as trim. All windows, upstairs and down, are Doug fir with painted trim. We are still a work in progress, but here's a few photos of the effect. Hint: on many posts, if you click on the photo it will link you to more pictures if this option has been enabled by the poster. I encourage you to search for more postings by Jaymielo...she has some beautiful examples. Also, check out this thread that I linked below. FWIW, my DH was also skeptical about mixing, but we already had decided on red oak floors and Doug fir windows, so what then do you use for trim? One way or another, you'd have differing woods adjacent, either for the window trim/windows or the baseboards/floor. I think painting the trim ties it all together in a satisfying way and our different woods still compliment each other. Oh, and just to complicate matters, we have some black walnut thrown in to that mix, as well! Comments (3)This project is taking forever, but it is moving. We got the window out, I tried to pay someone else to reglaze but it was cost prohibitive so I am doing it myself. Stripped / sanded off all the stain, polyurethane & paint. Got all the old glazing out, and replaced the broken glass with new glass. I am now trying to figure out what kind of glazing to use. Everything I've picked up says not recommended for stained or leaded glass. I was told by the stained glass store that this is not leaded glass, but I'm building this sucker up from scratch and want it to last 15-20 years if possible so the wrong kind of glaze would really suck. I have DAP 33 (can), DAP 33 (latex based in tube), a sherman williams store glaze. How do people glaze stained glass and what should I do in this case? My window is primed and ready to go! Please help : )...See MoreStained or White Interior Doors...and do they need to match?
Comments (9)Closet door are not a "feature" Stained doors, or ANY door "important" enough to differ from the trim casing around it? should lead to something equally important; Like a great dining room, or a wonderful study, perhaps a fabulous master bedroom: Not a closet,....a laundry, etc. ABRUPT color and stain changes, can cut up a house in a heartbeat. Or enhance something deserving. The word is restraint. : ) unless a more historic situation and home....See MoreUser
