Comments (5)I'm seeing a lot more of these little guys. One was on a sunflower leaf. I'm wondering if these are flea beetle larvae? I've had trouble with flea beetles in the past but not yet this year. I've also noticed that some of the lettuce and spinach in that bed looks a bit chewed on. Not classic flea beetle damage, but I wonder if these grubs/worms/larvae are to blame. I think it's time to break out the Pyola....See Moretiny white bugs on soil...larvae of some sort?
Comments (3)I think I finally found the culprit. Symphylans! Never heard of them before today, but from what I've read, this is exactly what I have. So, how did they get into sterile soil-less media? Well, here's a little lesson for all of you newbies like me: In an attempt to find suitable stakes for my very fast growing morning glory seedlings, I ventured into my backyard to snap off some of last year's reed-like growths from some as of yet unidentified bulbs that were planted by the previous owners. I thought I was being clever, but instead I'm very, very stupid since I think I introduced these pests into my pots. D'OH!!!! Does anyone have any experience with these critters? I hope I haven't doomed all my morning glories or anything else for that matter. Here is a link that might be useful: symphylans...See MoreTiny white flying bugs in houseplants
Comments (14)You should be more concerned with what systemic chemical is safe for YOU and the rest of your household (not just the plant). There are very few that are recommended for indoor use....because they are very toxic. The product will remain in the confines of the container for a long time, giving off fumes 24/7. They act differently when used in the soil, outside. Why not tell us what kind of plants you're struggling with? Some tend to be horrible whitefly magnets, and others are just plain ornery! There are other (much safer) effective products to use on whitefly, but without knowing what the plants are, I'd rather hold off on any suggestions....See MoreTiny tiny white worms
Comments (2)Thanks Irisgal - I saw your answer, but not your question! They were planted in the ground, but I hadn't changed the potting soil. Most the rhizomes were visible....See Morebekihi5
