Your Favorite Pink David Austin Roses
Comments (53)I plan to put Wildeve next to a fence - so if it does get long canes I will have something to attach it to. Jay [that's my son's name too!], glad to hear you like this rose - got it at an excellent discount for $5 in a big pot - it now has lots of buds. I have quite a few pink Austins - many are young so I haven't been able to evaluate yet. Am thinking I need to get Queen of Sweden, heard lots of good reports on it. England's Rose started out great last year, covered in blooms. Maybe I should have pinched them - the bush is still alive but not very vigorous - not going to let it bloom until/unless it recovers and starts growing. Love my James Galway - strong, upright bush that has a beautiful spring display then always has some blooms on it. Just got Sharifa Asma - covered in buds. I have a very old Mary Rose that does well. Love Tess of the d'Ubervilles - its on a huge fan trellis that it covers - it now has loads of big buds. Like Lady of Megginch - think I need to fertilize it more - when it blooms, you can see them all over the yard. Also have a large Scepter d'Isle that I like a lot - soft pink blooms, healthy bush, reliable rebloom. Charles Rennie Macintosh is another favorite - almost a lilac pink. I would like to see a stronger bush, but maybe its time for it to "leap" - it will be 3 yrs. old this year. That Alnwick rose is beautiful, Sylvia! Judith...See MoreWhat's Your Favorite Pink Rose?
Comments (52)I'm going to put a twist on this. You have Double Delight (my mother's favorite and mine is gorgeous). You want a pink to put with it. OK. There are just so many wonderful pink roses out there the decision could be difficult at best. So, let me see... Double Delight even at it's very best is about 4 feet tall. At least mine doesn't seem to want to get much larger. I see a lot of folks offering Tiffany which in intself is gorgeous! However, Tiffany in my garden had a tendency to get to be at least 7 feet tall. The same with Touch of Class, Heritage and a number of these beautiful pinks including the wonderful Gemini. It appears to me, from the way you describe this, that you would like Double Delight to be the focal rose of this garden. May I suggest Fragrant Cloud? I don't have any pictures, but you can find one here http://www.helpmefind.com/rose/pics.php?l=2.1785&nr=56470. There are really a lot of pink roses that would be wonderful with Double Delight. How about a floribunda, Our Lady of Guadloupe? It has a tendency to be probably a little smaller than Double Delight, but being a floribunda, it may not have the cutting quality you are looking for. There is always Chicago Peace, a gorgeous sport of the Peace rose and a very lovely shade of dusty pink. http://www.helpmefind.com/rose/pl.php?n=1147 I absolutely love the color of this rose. It too, should get about the same size as DD. To the person who sent the picture of Classy Carol...can you tell me more about this rose? I have plans on getting two next year, one for me and one for my SIL, Carol. It looks beautiful. Thanks tons. Comments (43)So many good suggestions still coming in--appreciate that. I won't be ordering until after Thanksgiving (or maybe after Xmas), so I'm open to any more beautiful ideas. I'm looking them all up. Some I kinda know. But I don't know much of anything about Mrs. Dudley Cross, cherrykist. Is it hardy in Zone 6? HMF say Zone 7--but I know it is sometimes rather conservative on hardiness. And I'm not sure about its height since HMF says 3-5 ft (or something like that). What is your experience--does it stay around 3 ft? It is a lovely rose, but not a type I have ever seen, so I'm not sure what to think about it. It's really cool looking at all the gorgeous pics--thanks everyone. Kate...See MoreFavorite Fragrant Hot Pink Rose
Comments (25)Mbluetyphoon, I'm so very sorry if I offended you. I had a sinking feeling as soon as I sent off the post that my comment was very much out of line. I hope you can overlook it. Diane-nj, I think I probably would like your garden. When you have very many roses with different colors close together the look becomes that of a rich tapestry, which I find very appealing. When I tried to picture in my mind just five roses of vastly different colors from the warm and cool sides of the color spectrum it was difficult for me. But it wasn't my place to comment on that, no matter how good my intentions. Ingrid...See Morefragrancenutter
