*Finally* found Tide w/bleach HE powder!
Comments (23)@ livebetter No, I'm not a chemist * LOL * In fact, one of my worst teachers in high school was a chemistry teacher. From my limited knowledge, silicates are generally included in detergents as "washer protection agents" or "anti corrosion agents". Perhaps some detergents are more aggressive and require this ingredient while others do not, I don't know. I purchased a laundry soap made specifically for conditioned water that contains as it's 2nd or 3rd ingredient sodium metasilicate, which is a corrosion inhibitor. Softened water is notoriously aggressive against metals. The salts in conditioned water corrode the anodes in hot water heaters pretty readily. Soft water can also do a good job leaching copper out of copper water pipes, sometimes causing "blue water" to come out of peoples' taps. This sometimes happens in newer homes, but the corrosion will eventually form a coating on the inside of copper pipes that acts as an insulator against the corrosion. Did you know that the name PERSIL comes from the two primary ingredients in its original formulation? The PER comes from PERborate and the SIL comes from SILicates....See MoreTIde Ultra HE with a Touch of Downy
Comments (9)Yes, but for some reason the Tide liquid he with a touch of Downy still smells like the old, original April Fresh Downy. I am loving the liquid! P & G better really swallow their pride, and just admit they made a HUGE f---ing mistake! April Fresh Downy reeks now. There is like 1000+ reviews on the Downy.com website trashing the "new" April Fresh Downy. If I just use he Tide liquid with a touch of Downy, do not do a 3rd rinse (no sensitive option) and use no fabric softener...I can get my clothes to smell classically April Fresh!...See MoreDowny Clean Breeze
Comments (25)Mami, I did, I washed a load of pocket grungy jeans and a load of colors last night with the CB powder and used the CB fabric softener. ..everything was clean and smelled teriffic. I know there's not a lot of love for this scent, which I don't understand. This CB along with the Mountain Spring scents (excludes liquid detergent) are the least sweet scents that P&G has. Rather than being sweet they are sharp, brisk, and very herbal. I quite enjoy them. The dried clothes had just a hint of the FS scent....See MoreCannot find STPP on Amazon!!!
Comments (43)Dafna sells on EBay. I bought 20 lbs of STPP last year. I also was monitoring Amazon and EBay when it stopped being available. Other sellers charge quite a bit more. It is available again YAY on both Amazon and EBay for those wondering. I have studied detergent formularies extensively and always look up the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) for old laundry and dishwashing detergents. Premium or Industrial powdered laundry detergent has on average 20-30% phosphorus by weight, consumer strength about 10-15%. Premium dishwashing powder detergent comes either chlorinated w/ phosphorus or enzyme based w/ phosphorus. (Bleach kills enzymes so you'll never see any formulas with both together). Phosphate content is 11% for industrial strength Cascade or 8% for consumer strength. Biz powdered detergent has a higher percentage of the main ingredient sodium percarbonate in comparison to Oxiclean. Biz is an enzyme based detergent, which means it works best in warm, not hot water (hot water destroys the enzymes). Enzymes need time to eat and break down protein based stains which is why heavily soiled items should be soaked overnight/24 hours to be the most effective. I use 1/2 a cup of Biz in my HE top load washer with 1 TBS sodium tripolyphosphate (STPP from Dafna General) and soak my whites overnight and wash the next day. I never use bleach because it is toxic and it breaks down clothing fibers over time. For dish detergent I use Cascade Platinum packs with 1 tsp STPP in the detergent section, and 1 tsp Citric Acid or LemiShine plus 1/2 tsp approx. of Dawn Ultra original blue dish soap in the pre-rinse compartment. Similarly, I also have used Up and Up powder detergent, Lemishine, and STPP altogether in the detergent compartment with just a squirt of Dawn as the pre-rinse. I have found that the Up and Up brand works exactly the same as Cascade for me when I add the citric acid and STPP along with it....See Moremiami mami
