Hi...this is the old fashion cc .... I have one that I am guessing is a little bigger in size... but has the woody stems, mine is a large piece (1/4 of the plant) that broke off of a friends grandmothers plant (her kitty tipped it over) her plant is 60+ years old (does that make my plant that old???) or do I start counting from when it was broken off and that was about 15 years ago.... any way these plants come from very old plants... there is some one on ebay that is selling pieces off of a plant they say is 100 years old.... it is a very nice looking plant, I hope it grows and produces lots of flowers in the library......linda

Hello, everyone! I did some research a few years ago in order to really understand and know the difference..like a 5 year old...between Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter Cactus. Most people believe they are all one and the same with different blooming periods. Many vendors sell them all as if they were the same plant...and call everything "Christmas Cactus." The attached photo clearly explains the difference and was taken from: http://www.mattslandscape.com/schlumbergera_growing/ In simple to understand layman's terms: Thanksgiving Cactus - Leaf / Pad edges have soft points - Flower is asymmetrical, pendulous but with a bend so bloom points sideways Christmas Cactus - Leaf / Pad edges are scalloped w/no points - Flower is symmetrical, pendulous and points downward Easter Cactus - Leaf / Pads are concave & round (lightly scalloped) - Flowers stand upright and are completely different from above two; Zinnia-like I hope this is useful.

Hi Stephanie, You can plant it either way but likely a 6" pot will rot the plant ASAP. These need small, plastic pots. For one cutting (or even if you cut that into 3, which would be fine) all it wants is a 3" pot, pls. believe me. Also, don't water it in once potted up pls.; wait several days at least.

I dunno, but if you get it figured out let me know the secret could ya? LOL I have tried letting them dry and potting them up after a callus and heard not to start in water because the roots are often weaker that way, I have also tried just breaking off some and sticking it back in the pot. NOTHING works for me!!! I have started other plants but can't get a CC to do a dang thing for me! I have one in a pot and its been alive now for a couple years at least, but want it fuller.
