Advice with rose selection in SE FL
Comments (25)Sumognat You are on the right path. I live in Delray Beach. The thrips here are 11 months a year. I have discovered the hard way that if you spray chemicals for disease you will have major thrip problems. It kills the beneficial insects that eat the thrips. On the other hand if you don't spray for disease the roses are a diseased mess. So it's a pick your problems situation. I have discovered that if you go with old roses that are disease resistant you can have beautiful roses without disease or without insect damage, atleast it is mimimal. I would highly recommend the china rose, Vincent Godsiff. It stays small and blooms it's head off 12 months a year. My Don Juans, grafted on fortuniana are about the only modern roses that haven't bit the dust with disease. Best of luck....See MoreNeed Help with Granite Selection for my new kitchen
Comments (9)Good luck with the granite process! It can be overwhelming. I will be getting off-white cabinets and was looking like you for a granite with movement. My realtor friend steered me away from New Venetian Gold because she felt that speckles were on the way out. I wanted movement but not so so much. I narrowed it to Yellow River, White Spring (similar to Tphoon Bordeaux) and Solarus. I elminated the solarus because I worried that there was not enough contrast between the predominant background color (the color of masking tape) and the off-white cabinetry. Solarus had more clouds than movement and DH seemed to like the Yellow River best. I took the White Spring out of the running myself because of the pink/mauve colors. I remember the 80's when I had a modular sofa that it took me years to get rid of! I had seen a gorgeous bordeaux called Manhattan gold that didn't have the mauve but couldn't find enough slabs. So Yellow River it was for me. All I can say is if you have time keep going back because the places I went to (Fairfield County, CT) kept getting more slabs every week....See MoreAppliance Selection- Overwhelmed
Comments (6)Yes, there is no clearcut answer. I am in the process of replacing some appliances......whether it's wrong or right, I am avoiding Samsung as I just have no good feeling about it .For dishwashers, most really do prefer Bosch and there is one model that CR rated as a best buy( affordable and a good product). I will likely be getting that one. I am looking at gas ranges and I agree there is no predominant brand. The fridge we replaced about 2 or so years ago, and got a Kenmore which I am pretty sure was made by LG and it's been great. I used to dislike GE, but I do think they are respectable products now. We got a GE microwave also about 2 years ago which was the CR best buy and we have been delighted with it. I guess to sum up= there is no one brand that stands out for each of the appliances....See MoreOverwhelmed with plant selection for my SoCal sloped backyard
Comments (8)By saying, "... and am completely overwhelmed trying to decide on plants ..." makes it sound as if you are wanting to "garden" the slope with a variety of plants. I wouldn't know what plants would work for you in that way, My suggestions are conceptual and about what minimum I think you ought to do. First, I would add one tree to the slope in order to make the tree scheme consistent. It looks like one is missing, Closer to the house (I presume that this is a yard and there is a house behind the camera), alongside the wall, might be a spot for an additional, smaller tree. Also, I'd bury the rocks such that their top surface matches, or is consistently slightly above the elevation of the lawn edge mowing strip. Third, plant something to cover the ground. Whether it's a uniform groundcover or a variety of plants would be up to you. However, I wouldn't place plants with any height to speak of at the foreground of the bed. Those would be better off closer to the perimeter wall, as part of the backdrop....See MoreRelated Professionals
