Coordinating ORB Kitchen cabinet hardware with door hardware.
Comments (4)My french doors are very close to the kitchen. If I were to go with coordinating the ORB kitchen cabinet hardware with the french door hardware, my concern is that the ORB door hardware I have seen is more black then brown. THe ORB I have in the kitchen is a deep bronze (brown) and that's what I prefer. SO my question is there an ORB door hardware that is more brown than black and if so which manufacture is it?...See MoreCoordinating aged brass hardware/faucet?
Comments (8)Thank you for these replies! palimpsest-I was also thinking tone wise that the burnished antique might be best as well. I'm in Portland so am fortunate to see actual fixtures at the store. My concern is there's something that looks a bit more... artificial? modern? to me sometimes in that finish? Was wondering if maybe it would look more authentic to age some unlacquered brass or just go for the ORB? warmfridge, I'm sure it's frustrating trying to find the perfect match and I can already see growing a little collection myself looking for "best!" Thank you for another vote for the burnished antique. I did wonder if ORB would just look black when placed in close proximity throughout the kitchen. judeny, I will check into the hardware options you mentioned, thank you! I'm esp. interested in the fact you still used satin stainless faucets. That might be a very good compromise. Perhaps have the ceiling fixtures and hardware on the kitchen cabinets and adjacent built in cabinetry in the aged brass and stick with stainless faucets to tie in the stainless appliances...? Would you have any photos to share? I was googling aging process of brass (apparently you can make it happen quick) and found some methods-e.g. enclose your (solid brass, unlacquered) item raised up in a sealed container with ammonia at the bottom and presto, instant aging. I'm not sure how you seal that afterward to keep it the tone you want. And won't work for me given the sheer quantity of hardware I need. But in case anyone else just has a piece or two that they're trying to age or "coordinate." Also found link for this product-no experience here obviously-but if it helps someone else. Comments (10)Stainless steel is a neutral. Pretty much everything goes : ) . Most of my appliances (fridge, wall oven, dishwasher) are stainless steel, the BlueStar range is cobalt blue, the cabinet hardware is brass. Backsplash tiles will be blue and white, either talavera or Tabarka. If I didn't have hard water, I probably would have opted for chrome on all of the plumbing fixtures. It's a classic. A lot of this depends on how everything in the room looks together and what look/style you like and are going for, and whether you're going for function and form, or one over the other. I chose the faucet I did because Moen is a dependable and reputable brand, I wanted the spot resist finish with our water, and I also wanted a faucet with pull down spray because the sink is the Ikea Domsjo with only one hole, so a separate spray wasn't an option. Decide what's important to you and go from there. There are lots of people who choose form/aesthetics over function, or want to copy a particular kitchen, and that can work depending on how one uses the kitchen. We live on a farm, grow/raise a lot of our own food, cook three meals a day, and have four (sometimes five) cooks in the house, so I wanted our kitchen to be a workhorse and look good. And in our rural area, both shopping and repair people are scarce, so I took that into account....See MoreKitchen faucet and cabinet hardware
