Please tell me it's not just me...
Comments (36)Javachik--thanks for posting! This gave me a much needed kick in the pants. And your daughter is beautiful! This thread totally captures my m.o. I considered starting a similar thread a couple weeks ago, but I got distracted.. ;-) Lately, my MBR is the unending 'work in progress.' I spent several months shopping for a new duvet cover, then finally gave up (couldn't find the colors I wanted) and purchased a regular comforter. It took me two months to put the new comforter on the bed & store my old duvet covers. For about a year, I've intended to buy new chairs to replace the wicker chairs at the foot of the bed. I finally ordered some a couple weeks ago, and DH assembled them last weekend. Now I need to work on replacing art in that room. I framed & hung prints over the bed yesterday, but I still need something to put over DH's nightstand. I promised myself that I wouldn't post to this thread until I'd made progress on at least one more task! So that motivated me to do a 'test run' of various framed prints that I have in other rooms to see if anything works in the MBR, and confirmed what I suspected (none of them quite suit the space over DH's nightstand). So I will probably order something tonight. This thread also motivated me to frame one of my uncle's drawings (I bought the frame in September(!) but just ordered a custom mat last weekend). I ordered custom wood blinds for the MBR in November(!), and they're still in the boxes in the sunroom. My goal for today is to decide whether we can hang the blinds ourselves, or whether we will hire a handyman. I couldn't hang them when they first arrived because I had major neck pain in Nov-December, but that subsided in early January, so it's no longer an excuse....See MoreJust tell me what to buy!
Comments (10)I wanted to use the Bridgeford ORB pulldown. Because it is so tall and my windowsill comes out too far, that faucet won't work. I only have 22 1/2" left to work with for sink and faucet. The sink would work with a lower faucet, but I just really wanted that faucet. I like Grohe's orb finish better than others I have seen so am giving up on orb and tall faucet. I am considering the cafe brown or biscotti color and have just heard so many good things about Blanco that I really haven't investigated the others. I could also have the windowsill cut down but wasn't really counting on that project. I have just about decided SS is just the easiest way to go and with a lower faucet of some kind. Then I don't have to worry about orb or what other faucet color would go with the cafe brown or biscotti sink. Just so confused!!!!...See MoreSo tired of picking. Just tell me what to buy and I'll do it.
Comments (14)I don't believe in buying new stuff like that just to sell a house, i.e.: design stuff but which you can't take with you. If you're going to spend $200 on a light, 1) you're not going to get anything great, so the improvement won't mean much in terms of selling; 2) wouldn't you be better off offering potential buyers a $200 credit toward buying those lights themselves? THAT would be much bigger toward selling. Point is, I wouldn't do either. You go and buy a new light, they buy the house, and replace the light for something they like and is in their taste. You offer them $200 toward lights they prefer, and you've just gone and spent $200 on a purchase they'd have made anyway themselves. Replacing lighting is not an expensive thing to do, not like knocking down walls or replacing kitchen cabinets, granite, putting in a new heating system, etc. It's the BIG costs that turn buyers off, not the little design things. And make sure the house is spotless. I think that's the other big factor. Better to invest that $200 in a really good cleaning company to come in and really detail the place, i.e.: baseboards, windows, dusting tops of doors, behind toilets, etc., etc. This post was edited by Tibbrix on Tue, Dec 23, 14 at 13:31...See MorePlease just tell me what to do re: laundry room
Comments (14)DD2's laundry room is also the entrance to house via the garage. She did not want to see W/D all the time, so DH made the top (also panel to hide water cut off, etc) and I sewed her a skirt. The top and small back are paint grade plywood. The back can quickly be removed during an emergency to cut off the water. Cabinets were original to house, but she painted. Counter is high, and lip across front hides the curtain rod. She kept saying she wanted to put something on top (tiles, laminate, etc) but the paint is easy to keep clean. Cats food/water is there now. I'm like you, have front loads now, but plan to have top loaded or stacked front loads in next house (depends on room). I had a dark basement laundry "area" for 20+ years, so when we were designing our current home I always said "pretty laundry room." It is pretty and it is functional, but I am only getting older and bending down (or getting on the floor) to do the laundry will not be in my future....See MoreRelated Professionals
