Muds the firewall with the 15 days trial is not the free version. A firewall stops unwanted and unauthorised actions entering or leaving your computer. Malware is pop up adverts and phone home spies who piggyback onto your computer along with legitimate things you download. Some freewares pay their bills by allowing this to happen. Those programs Bob and myself mentioned will assist in stopping this traffic. As freeware all of them except the anti virus need to be updated manually from time to time. No, there is no free service providing protection against all three kinds of threats to my knowledge. Basically no one should go on the internet without adequate protection. This is for your own benefit, it is easier to keep these things at bay than it is to remove them. As you state you are a newcomer to computers then it might be fair to say anything that goes wrong you will be paying to have repaired. So avoid those costs by using all the protection you can get. Unless of course you come here for help as you have done now, there are many knowledgeable people here to help you. You also have an obligation to everyone on your address book to maintain a clean computer. If you run with no anti virus or an out of date anti virus and you become infected them everyone in your address book is at risk because these virii can and do send to everyone listed trying to infect them also. That is not intended to frighten you but simply to let you see what is really needed. Simple maintenance needs mere minutes a week. Most anti virus update automatically and need nothing done unless you suspect things, then you run a scan. The malware programs need updating and running perhaps every 2 weeks or so, more if you visit doubtful sites. The firewall will inform you when there is an update.

HI! My father-in-law owns a GC firm, and I worked as a project manager for him. I am also building a home, and we are going to be doing the pay-outs, etc. I was checking out the ideas here and am sending him the UDA Suite 2009 suggested by Big Kahuna for his review. I am thinking that will be what I will use. You should pick your package based on your needs. If you are fully handling the project, you will most definitely want easy to use contracts/change order/purchase order formats...something I cannot fabricate from excel. especially if you can have a list of subs plugged into the suite and cut and paste a lot of the forms. I am thinking that program has it all, but am downloading the 30 day free trial now to check it out. Also, I will let you know what my fahter-in-law says or if he has any suggestions. I want a good program even if it is a little pricey, because I want to enjoy the management side of the project and do not personally love starting from scratch. I also love the timeline and risk features on that program. Talk to you soon...

I think you have a good idea. I hadn't heard of the app you mention, but I guess a benefit of internet storage is that your photos are offsite. I wouldn't give a privacy concern a second thought, I'm sure such photos would be secure. Plus no one who might have access honestly cares what's inside your house, the app seems to be from a legit insurance company. I'm not sure an app is needed. Take all the photos you want, transfer copies to your PC, and then make another copy to keep elsewhere. Use whatever is most convenient for you. It could be a CD, an SD card, or a small thumb drive. All are cheap. Or even make a few extras. Put one in your safe deposit box, give another to a friend or relative, etc. In case of fire, theft, or other loss cause, you'll have the photos you need to replace your belongings.

When you have the calculator open click on "view" in the top bar of the computer and change it to "basic" It probably got changed to "scientific" somehow
