Living room ideas, light fabric accent chair, new carpet and drapery

I am looking for some ideas for my living room. We are considering a light colored accent chair next to the fireplace where the single brown chair is now. Any ideas for the carpet - remove the carpet, lighter carpet? Also, ideas on curtains and potential color.

like this? The geometric pattern is a nod to modernity, but being neutral, not
a startling one. I think I'd keep the rug but replace the ottoman with a
light-coloured coffee table. I’d also tie in the light chair with just
two throw pillows on the sofa, on the same side, in a colour or two colours
from the chair. In this case I'd do one in light gold, one in mid-grey.

I know you didn't ask about lighting, but if I may, I'd like to make a suggestion. Lighting is often an afterthought in interior design, but it really does make a difference in a room. A table lamp or wall sconce in each corner at chest height is most flattering in a living room or bedroom. Put living room lighting in top search box to see the options.

Ingrid, the fireplace is definitely a cause for ongoing contemplation - what to do with the darker blue area jutting behind the mantel, the mantel colour, and the fire surround. Pillows are a little difficult as they slide off the leather, but if I see some must-have lumbar pillows I will snap them up for sure. Thank you for your suggestions. As for books, I have bookcases full in the finished basement, and stacks in my own room of "next reads" which I am constantly trying to tame. As there isn't much surface area in this main level "everything" room, I tend to just carry around whatever I am reading at the time. I love the look of vignettes with books on coffee tables, but I use that surface frequently to serve hors d'oeuvres or beverages, and don't want to hunt for somewhere to clear items other than maybe candles or fresh flowers. I guess I am getting a little lazy in my older age;)

I would rearrange your furniture and rug so that everything is centered on the fireplace which will open up walkways for both doors. See layout. Using this new layout, I would look at swivel chairs so they could face the tv as well (assuming it’s in the cabinet). For fabric, I would look at leather/pleather or a fabric with no pattern since there is pattern in your drapes and rug. Consider light blue (if that is your rug color) or a beige like your drapery panels.

I think a rich cream color would look very nice with the rest of the room. I am thinking something very much as the pillows in the left of your photo appear. Then if you're not totally wed to the mirror above the fireplace you can bring in artwork and some candles to pick up the cream of the chair. I assume the recliner you mentioned is in the upper right hand side (where for some reason another commenter moved a television into place.). A pillow or small throw placed on the chair can correlate to the rich cognac color of your sofa and love seat. Good luck.

All three look really nice, and should work well if the colors work with the rug, which I can't judge from the photos. Are the upholstery samples at home? Can you get a photo of them lying on the rug? It's always hard to judge color through a photo on a computer monitor, but at least if they were together in the same photo, we could be confident that we were comparing them under the same lighting conditions.

I would flip the sofa to the other side so it faces the windows instead of blocking them. that will define your conversation area. on the window side, place two armchairs and a small drink table between them, meaning the armchair you have now to the left of the fireplace and the new one you purpose to add. That would give you balance on both sides of the fireplace and breathing space around the windows.

Although the ottoman color ties in nicely to your window coverings, the shape seems a little awkward and it adds too much leather to the room. A glass and metal coffee table would be visually lighter and add some pizzazz.

Ok so I love your bokhara but it is looking a little faded and kind weighing the space down. It looks like you a light kitchen so lighter accessories with you dark furniture will look fabulous! So I took a pale blueish gray bokhara and the chair and table Rina suggested with a few accent pillows. What do you think?
