Puddles after levelling

Zach W

Hi!

For the past few weeks I've been working on levelling my garden, with a view to putting down gravel over a membrane. It came with a gradual incline as you head towards the back. I'll upload some pictures to help (atm the internet isn't playing along)

Obviously the further back I go, the more I have to dig to level out the ground. What I've noticed, though, is that now that I'm pretty far back, the ground is becoming much "squishier" and attracting more puddles. I've therefore taken a break and thought I should check whether this is normal. In the meantime I've also put some of the soil (that has some gravel and sand, as well as clay in) back in the ground where the puddles were worst.

In short, am I okay to keep just levelling the ground or is there something(s) I should be aware of whilst doing so?

I don't think I've explained things the best, so any questions - please let me know.

Many thanks,

Zach
