Vanilla Meidiland (Vanilla Bonica)

alleygarden

I am looking at various white shrub roses to make a good companion for my Frederic Mistral which I only planted last year and am yet to see its actual size and height. Both roses are supposed to be planted side by side to make a romantic-looking, white-and-pink pair. I am currently thinking of a Vanilla Meidiland (aka Vanilla Bonica) which I love for the overall effect of a white cloud. One thing I am worried about though is that the two may be too different in terms of height. Frederic Mistral is said to reach 150cm or even 180cm, and Vanilla Meidiland is described as being small enough, 60 to 70cm, but it does seem to have longer canes of ca. 100cm which tend to lean toward the ground. Have anyone had any experience with it? Can you actually make it stand more upright and possibly rest on a small fence? What do you think about combining the two? Also, does VM perform well in the rain?
Thanks everyone for your inputs!
Margo
