I'm doing several colors of wood. It is the nature of the material that it won't ever be matchy/matchy anyway. I don't have any pics up and am so busy I probably won't for a while, but the long and short is that: >my v-groove pine ceilings have a very thin coat of white glaze. These are the very high ceilings in the living room and adjoining /office loft. Looks like new sawn pine, was a one coat application, very important since I did it myself. >kitchen and dining ceilings are beadboard pine, stained a caramel color. Same will be used on the pine interior doors. >Windows have been done with Watco Oil. It is easily renewable without stripping, and gives a very deep hand rubbed look. >was going to use Watco on the trim boards, but due to the number of coats needed, I think I'll use a similar color minwax stain with a satin urethane topcoat. Same color is on the ceiling beams, and will be used on the door casings as well. I personally feel that the colors need to relate, but be very clearly different from one another so they clearly represent a design feature, not an oversight.

Personally, I like the contrast of the white so I would not mute it. Is the dark charcoal color the same on the trimmed panels in the door? If so, I would do the door trim in that. In my opinion, that will make the door "pop" more - but I happen to like that contrast.

I would do a whiter version of the wall color. Glad you aren’t painted your wood trim! I’m not opposed to painting wood trim in general, but it just seems like everyone is painting their wood trim and I don’t think that’s always the answer!

Thanks everyone! I ended up doing white dove consistently for doors and trims and it looked beautiful
